The whole idea of these, I think, is to keep water and subsequent rust out of the square tubing. They do that and their relatively low price makes them a worthwhile investment. You might want install them with some adhesive.

These two inch plastic plugs are what they are. They fit tightly into a square two inch hole!

Quick and easy install

With a tap of a soft rubber hammer, these filled in a few places where wasps can no longer build and should keep out the elements as they fit fairly tight. Worth every penny when you get stung a few times (and I have been stung enough).
