This is one of the easiest and best ideas for finishing the insides of my bowl turns. I highly suggest this tool for anybody looking for quality and at a great price.

So this tool is ok, there are 2 bad issues 1 of which is a failure! The sponge heads are really nice until they are used some. The hook and loop Velcro fails to remain attached to the sponge! The biggest issue is the retainer brass part. The screw hole and threads will fail! Once this happens the head will fall of any time gravity can. This causes the brass spacer to fall as well and you have to chase it down! Customer service charged me $3 for the new micro screw that came out! The heads are not cheap! The t knob is nice but prevents it from tighter places. The handle is very nice and the paper is pretty good. It hold up well. I use Festool tools so use that to balance my “good quality” claim. Would I buy it again. NO. Due to the retaining brass and screw issue it becomes a massive pain! My $3 2nd screw has fallen out and gone missing as well now! I have tried to reattach the hook and loop Velcro with va glue with mixed end result.. As wright this review I am shopping for a better version to replace this with due to its failures. If I could return all the items I would!

After using this sander For several projects I can say it does a better job than trying to hand sand on the lathe. But, the handle for me could be longer for stability and the locknut could secure better. Sands externally well but struggled with deep concave internal coves in bowls. Internal vessels need to be wide enough to accept the depth of the sanding head and bearing housing. If you are not careful it will twist out of your hand if you bump the housing or the thumb adjustment knob on the alternate inside wall. I would have preferred more sanding discs to come with the tool. Shipping was as expected and well packaged. Update: July 2019... It did not take long to exhaust the very small supply of sanding discs that came with the tool. The sanding discs are not very durable. After using some discs I cut up from some hook and loop sanding pads I was much more happier with the tool. The better quality sanding pads made it much easier to get the pad to spin on the surface and it works very well at removing tool marks. A better quality sanding disc now lasts me roughly 2 1/2 bowls (6-12”) per disc. Additionally, I can sand up to finer grits with beautiful results. It did take some time to get used to using the sander correctly. A little patience, better sanding discs, and the occasional drop of machine oil will have you turning out better turnings. I hope this helps... Last update: 14 September 2019, I ordered 2” blue sanding discs from 2sand.com in grits from 120 - 600. These blue discs greatly improved the sanding capabilities of this tool. I know Mirka is also much appreciated in the wood lathe communities, 2sand.com’s blue sanding discs are less expensive. At 25 discs per package versus Mirka’s 10 per grit the 2sand.com package price was much lower than Mirka. I can sand in progression 3-4 hardwood bowls per disc.

    Greater than one week

this sander does what it suposed to do,,,but the head is held on by c clips,,,and the top one will come off after you do much sanding,,,if you look at the one sold by sorby you will notice the top of the head is held in place with a locking sleeve,,if you buy this expect to replace the c clip on the top if you use it very much,,,

I was shocked to discover this has NO BEARINGS inside for the shaft to spin in. That means it is just metal against metal. It works ok if you keep it lubed but this was a corner which should not have been cut.
