A.M. Leonard Deluxe Soil Knife, Orange – Hori Hori w/ 6-Inch Stainless Steel Blade

> 3 dayIve read reviews by other professional gardeners and landscapers and can really only reiterate. I used an A.M. Leonard soil knife (the classic model) working for a landscaping company for 3 years (and it probably wasnt new when I got it). When I left landscaping, I could no longer enter my backyard without wishing I still had it. Such a sturdy digger/pryer. I do recall feeling it start to bend one time, but I dont remember which completely stupid misuse I was trying at the time. Perhaps stuffing a rock under it as a fulcrum and stepping or jumping on it to pull up a wood form around concrete--that kind of stupid. I also saw plenty of dirty A.M. soil knives, knives at the bottom of toolboxes exposed to the elements, but no terribly rusty ones. My old classic model one wasnt great for cutting, I always carried a razor knife and pruners for cutting. However the deluxe model I bought for home use cuts much better. Maybe due to it being new, but the serrated side seems way better than I remember on the old classic. I even use it like a machete (the serrated side surprisingly) to chop up non-woody plants. I dont care for the twine cutting notch in this deluxe model (Ive cut myself on it several times and twine zero times--besides the serrated side can cut twine). I could grind that dull, if I really wanted it gone. The inch markings are nice too have.

> 3 dayI broke my Fiskars model from that large box store with the word home in it, and decided to try this as a replacement. Its fantastic! Equal to the one I had, sharp sturdy and convenient. A sheath would be nice, but I use the old one from fiskars. Then I found out my old one had a lifetime warranty. Sent them a picture and they replaced it free! Nice, who does THAT anymore?!? So now I have 2, and I must admit, the only drawback to this tool that makes it my second choice is the handle. While the nice bright color makes it easy to find when you stick it in the ground and forget where, the other model has a wooden handle which I find more comfortable. I guess if you wear gloves you wouldnt even notice, but I often work with out them, and in that case, this model is my second choice. Overall, consider the lifetime warrantee of the fiskars, and level of comfort you want from the handle, but no complaints with this one. Its an an awesome tool!

> 3 dayI was given one of these as a gift and ended up buying one for someone else. Incredibly useful. The sharp serrated side cuts down even bamboo shoots. You can dig holes or plantings, weed tight spaces. Incredible useful.

> 3 dayThis is my favorite gardening tool. It is fantastic for weeding, the hook allows me to cleanly cut through dead flower stalks, etc without reaching for my pruners and the serrated edge is great when you dont have a saw handy. Fantastic all-in-one!

> 3 dayI love this product. This item is comfortable to use, easy to maintain, and effective at cutting through weeds with long roots. Ive successfully use it to pry up deeply rooted weeds, even when they have attached themselves to small rocks. I know that I can use herbicides, but sometimes the weeds are too close to plants or trees that I do not want to harm. Besides, I prefer to go natural. I consider this one of the my best investments for maintaining the garden.

16-04-2025This is a great product. It has a nice weight, nice feel to it. Its sharp and cuts through roots and dense soil very well. Im not sure how I have gotten along without it before! I have used it to remove big clumps of crab grass and to dig out burdock and dandelion. I used it to cut swaths of creeping Charlie out of the garden, too, and it made the task go much more quickly. Its also great for getting out weeds between stones in pathways. I also used it to cut through the cardboard sheets Im using as weed block so I can plant through it, and it made short work of that cardboard cutting! It has fast become my favorite tool! I wear leather gloves when I use it because it really is sharp. I love that one side is serrated and one is not. I do suggest you get the leather sheath with it. I am using a sheath not made for it, and it doesnt fit quite right. Overall, this is a versatile, handy tool, well worth the price.
