Although Im a frequent traveler, I rarely have the need for a garment bag, but when I do, I really miss having one. My husband and I could have used this two summers ago when we traveled to three weddings and had to pack our good clothes, dresses and suit, as carefully as we could in suitcases. Now, we can travel with our clothes hanging and folded over once instead of folding several times and crushed by the rest of our clothes. The problem is, how do you take something like this on an airplane? For that reason, I consider this bag more, ahem, suitable for car travel more than air travel. Yes, it would like fit in the overhead compartment, but without wheels and a size that makes it awkward to carry even using the detachable strap, it wouldnt be easy to move through multiple airports with it. In additional to the detachable strap, this garment bag has two handles that fasten together using strong Velcro. You have to supply your own hangars, so it would be wise to invest in some lightweight, flat ones for your clothes. I love that this bag doesnt just carry hung clothes but also has an outer compartment for extras such as shoes, cosmetics, underwear, etc., and a couple of flatter spaces inside for things like ties. The clothing is secured down its length to keep it from sliding and bunching. Once you fill this garment bag with extras, it becomes not only heavy but also more difficult to fold again, if necessary, to fit into a bin. The tough nylon fabric is stiff and thick enough to protect your clothes but also hampers folding again. On a car trip, this garment bag would be a no-brainer to bring along. I would even let a cruise company take it to my statement among the other luggage since its tough enough to handle some abuse. I just wouldnt check it for a flight. The question is whether I could safely get it stowed on board. For that reason, I doubt Ill use this for flying unless Im really desperate. -- Debbie Lee Wesselmann

Doesnt fold compact enough for my needs. I almost returned it. But it is well made. I have other Amazon Basics products, and theyve lasted a long time. Durable.

This AmazonBasics Premium Tri-Fold Garment Bag is part of the Basics collection however, it is anything but basic. On the contrary, this is a full featured garment bag. Although it can get wrinkly when being stored, it doesnt translate into wrinkled suits and clothes when traveling. The material is thick enough to stave off wrinkles. There is a clear window for a name and address ID card. There are six zippered pockets on the outside, three zippered pockets per side. This allows for carrying pairs of shoes or other items on the outside of the garment bag. There are multiple places for hanging suits and clothes and a soft bar for hanging slacks and pants. It tri-folds nicely and has two fastening straps for keeping it in place once folding it. It can be carried by either a handle or an attachable shoulder strap. This is a very fine garment travel bag and I am impressed with it.
