These are replacements for Andersen 2852 non-tempered double-hung sash windows. They also work with other size Andersen windows of similar wright. The product description is not quite correct. These are actually 1033 (part # 1626044) sash balances, not 1031. The 1033 balances supersede the older 1031 balances. The 1033 units are held in with screws rather than staples. Be sure to visit Andersens website to find the correct balancer for your size and style window. There is a wealth of information on their website to help you find the correct part. You will need to know if the glass in your windows is tempered or non-tempered. If you have tempered glass, it is usually stated in the lower corner of the window. Most residential windows are non-tempered unless they are in doors or if they are adjacent to doors. Tempered glass windows use a different sash balance than non-tempered glass due to significant weight differences between the two types of glass. Installation is not difficult, but you should watch one of the YT videos on the subject before starting the job. You should also have a helper around to hold each sash while detaching and attaching the tension cables. You will need a Phillips screwdriver, a small hammer, a small set of pliers or vice grips, and a utility knife (used for separating paint or caulk from the liners) to install the new balancers. An electric screwdriver might also be helpful, but not mandatory. Sash balances are not cheap, but you really should replace both sides at the same time even if one side appears to be working properly. This means you will need to order two per window. The good news is that you will save yourself a significant amount of money repairing the windows yourself rather than paying a glass company to do the work — that is, IF you can find a glass company that’s willing to work on Andersen windows.
