> 3 dayWhen my a/c guy came by recently to give an estimate on some repairs he pointed out that my attic stair ladder was not insulated and that hot air was likely being sucked from the attic and contributing to increased dust in the house and reduced efficiency of the upstairs air conditioner. I’m always wary of the upsell but a quick search of the energy star website indicated that uninsulated attic stairs can be a big source of waste. My a/c guy suggested that I install an attic ladder tent. I ended up with this unit and had it installed today. Measured with an IR gun, the hottest attic temp I can read with the tent closed is now 89 degrees. Before it was 108. Further, with the attic ladder opening fully closed, the air path between the attic ladder opening and a nearby return vent was hovering at 85 degrees. Now that same path is hovering at 75 degrees (same as everywhere else upstairs). In both cases the upstairs air conditioner is set on 73. This seems to indicate that air is no longer being sucked from the attic and the air being pulled into the return is the risen hot air from the room which is pretty much 75 degrees all along the ceiling. I also spray foamed in the cracks where they roughed in the attic stair ladder. I dont know if this is saving me money, but it clearly is reducing the amount of attic air being sucked down and back into my ventilation and thats a great thing. I suspect there are some savings as well. One last thing. The day after I installed this, my wife mentioned that it felt cooler in be hallway. This happens to be the hallway where the attic ladder is hung. I agree, it feels cooler.

> 3 dayMy attic was frosting pretty bad on a cold winter. Tried to figure out why and discovered the amount of heat gushing through the attic ladder hatch. Since I installed it the attic dried out completely. Before I was thinking for improving the attic insulation but actually the real problem was my attic hatch. Never was quite concern over the few extra dollars that Im probably loosing due to heat loss but the moist attic was going to develop a more serious damage to the roof deck over time. This one fixed it. It works as advertised and its relatively easy to use. Its just a zipper.

> 3 dayI installed this on my 1965 attics pull-down after a home energy assessment showed it was leaking. They told me that this is the number one source of leaks they see in homes. Clean and well made, easy to open/close...I used a staple gun around the edge and silicone sealer around the edges as recommended, as I can tell that even the tiniest path could result in a leak. My results are exactly what are advertised. My upstairs now feels stable and the air is clean feeling, much cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. The previous owners must have been sending a huge amount of heated/cooled air up into the attic. Not sure why people get so picky about this product...it a simple idea that works. Its pricier because its a good product and works.

> 3 dayThis product is made of very solid material. Easy to install. Just staple the edges and apply caulk and youre on your way to save on electricity bill. My hallway is noticebly warmer with the cover in place now.

> 3 dayI think the insulating material is too thin because the heat from the attic will penatrate the tent in a matter of hours and it will be just as hot inside the tent as it is in the attic. It is hard for me to tell if the tent does in fact lower the temperature during the summer because before I installed the tent I used insulating strips along the perimater of the attic door to form a seal at the cracks and that alone lowered the temperature 2 or 3 degrees, and then I installed the tent and the tent made no difference in the temperature. To test the effectiveness of the tent properly I would have to remove the insulating strips from the attic door and then see if the tent alone lowers the temperature, something I have not done and dont really want to. Note that I installed it properly and used caulking along the edges to make it air tight. This tent might work better in the winter than in the summer since I havent tried it out during the winter yet.

> 3 dayDefinitely decreased air flow around pull down stairs. Air tight with proper stapling and caulking.
