> 24 hourAxis cameras: THEY JUST WORK - A MONKEY COULD INSTALL THEM - You plug them in, you refresh the axis IP discovery program, log into the IP, set the network storage, and boom, youre done. No need to dig out that old DVD drive and reinstall it in your computer just to install a proprietary software CD that doesnt even have an option for English, and no need to download any shady Chinese software that installs a handful of deprecated Windows XP plugins and a desktop stripper. Axis cameras have a built-in operating system that will analyze the video and detect motion, and the amount of applets that Axis makes for their camera OS outnumber any and all competitors. They have an applet for everything - fire detection, dust detection, license plate recognition, people counting, people direction - and all these applications run off the camera itself, so no need to stay up all night trying to restore your VM server after Windows decides to force-shutdown and install an update that completely kills your computer. The simplicity of installing axis cameras has made me soft - and when I went to install some 100 dollar Hikvisions two days ago, it caused me to fully understand why Axis cameras are 200 dollars more than the Hiks, and why they are so much better - because I have yet to even GET AN IMAGE off these Hiks, even though ive spent two whole days troubleshooting and api-getting and npapi-enabling. If you live in the third world and still have Windows XP, then by all means -- get those Reolinks or Hikvisions and fight with them, but if you need something RELIABLE and SIMPLE, JUST GET THE AXIS CAMERA! I promise you, you will not regret it even once.

> 24 hourThis is a commercial grade camera and performs well so far. However, Axis informed me that it will NOT warranty any camera purchased from the Amazon website. Four stars for that reason. Therefore make sure that the seller you buy it from will warranty it and will probably be around for the duration of the warranty which is 3 years. Update January 22, 2020 Camera died this month after 14 months of service. Too short for what this camera costs. You will only get a 3-year warranty if an authorized Axis installer/seller put it in for you. If you buy it from any other seller that is not an Axis authorized installer/seller, and the camera dies after the sellers return period expires, there is nothing you can do except throw it away.

> 24 hourI have a number of these in service. The M series cameras are the entry level range for the retail store or non critical settings. The reason I like them is there arent many cameras with such a wide (115 degrees!) field of view in the Axis lineup. The next one up in outdoor cameras being a Q series that costs a fortune. These will give a good enough view of a wide area but theres no optical zoom and youre not going to get forensics quality footage on subjects that are that far away. My only real complaint about this model, for what it is, was they keep updating the firmware (usually this is a good thing) and the latest iteration added a browser checker in the UI that wont let you open it if youre using anything other than Firefox or Chrome I believe. I seem to remember Safari not being allowed in and opera forget it. The whole point of a web based gui is to have a browser and OS agnostic experience. I let Axis know how I felt about that. They will let you use a older firmware if you want but it does appear that after FTPing into the camera you can access the UI files and edit the HTML if you know what youre doing to remove the browser checker script. Anyway, I only use Axis Communications as they support the products and have a factory RMA service center a couple hours from here that has amazing turnaround time. Even if the camera is out of warranty, the charge (only if they can fix it!!!) is reasonable and if they cant fix it theyll sell you a refurb for a song. In summary, its a fantastic commercial grade camera. It will have some things consumer cameras dont have (such as MJPG if you want to just view the stream in a web browser) although probably not as many gimmicky features. If youre wanting to zoom in you should really consider a model that has optical zoom and not this camera as its just a good (not Times Square Earthcam) panorama-ish wide FOV.
