Badass lil lens

THE NIFTY-FIFTY. This is a superb entry level lense. I use it on a canon 80d, 5Diii, Sony a7sii and a6400. I have two versions of this lens, the older 50mm 1:1.8 II And this one 50mm 1:1.8 STM. Both are sharp but the STM is noticeably sharper and the autofocus in video and photo modes is smooth, fast and silent. Contrast is a little lower than its L counterparts but at under 200 dollars, it’s awesome. I take a lot of portraits as well as snapshots and videos. Bokeh is good and it’s fairly sharp wide open. It’s sharper than my more expensive Sony 50mm 1.8. The autofocus hits at about 98% in good lighting and in low light I would say it hits about 90%. One thing to consider if using it for video, the manual focus right is electronically coupled and is sloppy when using it for focus pulls, what do you expect for a cheap lens though? Very impressed.

Purchased directly from Canon since I can get a discount. I absolutely love this little lens for my new Canon 80D - all the reviews are correct. Being my first prime lens the Bokeh is incredible for such an inexpensive lens. I am new to photography, but this is already my favorite lens - even over the 2 expensive nano USM lenses I purchased (18-135 & 70-300).

Let me just say first that this lens is AMAZING! It exceeds its value by far and in my opinion can only be beat by the Canon 50 1.2L II lens. The image quality is great, it has a really good build quality compared to its predecessor, and performance of this lens is just flawless. It is great for portraits, event photography or street photography, it also performs nicely in low light.

Just getting back into photography after a long hiatus, and purchased an SL3. The kit lens was great, but I really wanted something higher quality with a better depth of field, and wow this lens filled that request! Its worth every penny, and its just as great as every other five-star reviewer has stated.

You just cant beat such aperture and extras for such price. The lens performs nicely on photo and video.
