I remembered this movie from 1993 and wanted to see it again. What I liked most was the music, even though as a middle aged white guy rap isnt normally ma thang. Still funny, but 20 years later it falls kind of flat, I guess too much has changed in comedy and movies in general.

The crudity and ignorance of so-called gangsta rap is such a self-caricature that it would almost seem redundant to spoof the genre, but Chris Rock and co. effectvely manage to do this with success. The LoCash Crews foolishness and stupidity could easily be mistaken for a real rap documentary. However, I really liked the scene here Chris Rocks father lays down the law about this mockery of ghetto life, which really is not funny at all. I wish some real rappers (some who appeared in this film) would have gotten the point!! The late Eazy (Eric Wright) E, who deserves the blame for inventing this garbage-filled genre and whom this film is largely based on, appears in a cameo.

in a nutshell, CB4 is a laugh in the face of the gangster rap scene of the 1990s. It could loosely be described as a spoof to the scene, but isnt as obvious as the airplane or naked gun films. the film stars an early Chris Rock who was coming straight from his success in New Jack City, who plays the films leading character Albert Brown. Along with his two homies, they are the most hopeless rappers that has emerged on the rap scene in LA and are desperate for the big break to set off their career. Then one night they are showcasing in a club and meet the notorious rapper MC Gusto, which gives them the idea to relaunch themselves as gangster rappers. Things take a turn for the best and they suddenly are catapulted to stardom, with serious consequences. From then on in, the film really takes off and features cameos from Ice-T, Ice Cuve, MC Ren and Public Enemys Flavor Flav and Chuck D. If you like gangster rap, then this is the film for you.
