Drill America - DWTPT1/8-1SET 6 Piece NPT Pipe Tap, Carbon Steel, DWTPT Series Set, 1/8, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 3/4 and 1 in Wooden Case

Packaging was not damaged in shipping, in fact it was double boxed. The wooden case was falling apart before I opened it, and when I opened it the lid came apart and one of the pieces holding the taps was not attached. The tap I used today worked fine, but k will need to find another way to store them.

Works good for soft metals for making new threads

Tried tapping one piece of metal and it destroyed the threads on the tap. I use cutting fluid just like I always do. The may work on aluminum but sure would not use it on anything harder.

These work great and come in a nice wood box for storage

Most tap kits are only for machine bolts, course or fine thread. This kit is pipe thread and includes the most common industrial NPT fittings. I mostly work in steel, stainless steel and brass and these are Ideal for repairing threads. I would be careful trying to cut new threads but I would assume that the kit is plenty hard enough.

I need to cut threads a bit farther in 3/4 cast iron pipe clamps (Pony brand). Wore down on first use. These dies are constructed of carbon steel and it turns out I should be using High Speed Steel dies. I am returning.

The first time using the kit the 1/2” tap broke on the cutting edge on multiple threads. I was using it on cast iron. An approved material for this tap set.
