Freud 04-108: 1/4 (Dia.) Double Flute Straight Bit, Pack of 1, Perma-shield Coating Red

Doing research, I saw that all the various Freud bits have great reviews. This is my first purchase of the brand and I can now understand why the company has such high ratings on its products. I havent done much routing, but this produces the smoothest/easiest cuts while using the router that I can remember.

I purchased this for a CNC router. I measure all my endmills prior to using them and this one came in just shy of the stated 1/4. To me this is not an issue because I always enter the real diameter of the endmill into my CAM software. I have never found an endmill that has been exactly to specifications advertised, but I do not purchase $100+ endmills because for what I do, the software corrects for inaccuracies in the diameter. This endmill works great on hardwoods and plywood. I prefer the straight flute type for wood because I do not get any tear-out and this one leaves a nice clean finish. It also works great at cutting HDPE plastic.

I do a lot of routing for a product I sell. Bit Longevity helps my bottom line and my production - this bit has it all.

What can I say, it’s a router bit and it’s a Freud. Works great.

This bit broke on the 4th cut, within 5 minutes of using it.

Double flutes for balance. Small size for faster cutting. Great setting up a jig and doing some cutting in lieu of a CNC machine.

Nice tool, except it is NOT .25 inch. Measures .245. So if you need precision, find something else.

Knife edge of bit sheared off after first five seconds of trying to cut into clean pine stock. No staples or nails. No metal whatsoever. I bought The Freud bits expecting their reputation to be good. I won’t be as trusting in their products from here on out.
