This Hakko FX888D is a far cry from the standard iron. Once learning the quite puzzling interface of the control unit(go to Hakko.com)this station works like a dream. Yes the interface takes a bit of a learning curve but is possible with a little persistence. Now that youre up and running, this unit does exactly what its supposed to. Heats quickly to set temperature, maintains and then once hand unit is placed back in holder it drops the temp to the idle setting. Uses T18 tips and theres a boat load of different ones. For the price and quality its hard to beat. Not a $600 station by no means, looks cartoon-ish but works like a champ for most jobs.

Dont waste your time and money on a no-name mediocre brand. If you are serious about soldering, this is what you want.

After a few years of using a cheap hakko 936 knockoff I decided to get the real thing and Im so glad I did. Ive used it for smd components as well as desoldering components from old boards and it performed flawlessly. The iron heats from room temp to 750 degrees f in 30 seconds and maintains temp perfectly. I read alot of reviews saying the temp control setting is not intuitive and difficult but after reading the instructions and using it I find it very user friendly and easy to navigate. I highly recommend this soldering station to anyone who is looking to upgrade from a cheap knockoff or wanting to start off with a quality tool that gets the job done fast and efficiently.

Worth every penny. The micro sized tips have really helped me especially when soldering tiny leads onto a flight board for my RC quadcopter. This is the best soldering station Ive ever owned and I have been through many many irons in the past. If you do solder larger items like NiMh battery cells I do however suggest you get a monster of an iron such as an 80w Weller or better. This is a precision station and may not have quite the residual heat capacity needed for battery cells.

Best soldering iron I’ve ever used. I purchased mine two years ago and I can’t believe the quality of this great tool. When another reviewer writes something negative about this particular tool, they are not being honest. Look at all of the five star reviews for this iron and you will understand. There are very few items in this world that I would put my name on. This is one of them. This iron will run up to 850 degrees and it is measured at the tip. Not to mention it takes less than 30 seconds to get there. No kidding. 30 seconds. I use mine daily.
