Klein Tools VDV501-852 Cable Tester with Remote, VDV Scout Pro 3 Test Kit Locates and Tests Voice, Data and Video Cables

This is easy to use and understand the readings. It comes with everything I needed to test my network cables both where the ends were close by and where one of the ends were remote. The lite up screen really helps as I ended up troubleshooting in the dark. It even helped me identify a cable that I thought was good but ended up showing that one pair of wires did not have a good connection in the cat 8 plug although it looked like it did from a visual inspection.

I bought the VDV501-852 but after playing with it I realized I probably would have been better off with the VDV501-853 however the -852 will do what I need it to do.

The items was delivered within the time indicated by Amazon. The feature of measuring the length of the cable is within 1 - 1.5m accurate... which is sufficient for my needs. A good purchase all round.

Very useful and versatile network analyzer, especially for the money. Being able to flash a port on a switch is a feature that even much more expensive tools often overlook, but is quite useful in certain situations.

It is Klein! You can not go wrong. You pay for what you get, and I love the brand.

I bought this crap Klein Tools VDV501-853 only work with two cables, after that everything fails, even a small cable that comes with a tester failed all. I try all 6 Test + Map, failed. Not sure bad tester or Chinese crap. Requesting for return

This version Amazon is selling had a defect in this firmware. It will not pass cat 6 SHIELDED cable for any reason. Other cables it’s works fine but not CAT 6 SHIELDED CABLE For what ever reason. I had to call Klein tools directly and they confirmed, that this tester had the defect. I had to pay to ship the device back to them for a replacement. Very inconvenient. We verified that cable was good with another high end tester. We ordered this one to have a backup on this project. Buyer beware.

If you are serious about your work, this is a very good tool. I’d recommend getting a pouch or a bag to keep it safe and expand its longevity but it is pretty device rugged already. The tracing feature is so useful to fix lazy installers messes. The coax testing is very useful too. You might want to get the appropriate adapters if you are going to test BNC cables or connections and not just Ftype connections.
