This gp60ns50 seems like an excellent solution to modern tablets not having any optical drive. I got this to complement my Surface Pro 3 (SP3). I have a SP3 docking station also. I retired my desktop. The LG gp60ns50 drive DOES work with the SP3 but only when connected directly to the SP3. The gp60ns50 does NOT work when connected to the docking station. (FYI: I also have two Dell U2514 monitors connected to the docking port which I purchased from Amazon) The drive works fine. The look of the drive is nice, seems like a silver plastic cover which I chose over the black. I took off one star for the general quality of the drive, it seems quite light and fragile. I may go to five stars after a while, let me give it time. I only intend to use the drive very infrequently, so this ought not be a major issue.

Now that all the new iMacs no longer have a disc drive, I had to find an external one but didnt want to pay a ridiculous amount for something that only gets used once in a while. I trust LG products and went with this one. The build quality is a bit light but I like that it works right out of the box without having to download any software or anything - just plug the sucker in and BOOM - that Ace of Bass cd goes right into my iTunes. Woot! Woot! Will it wear out at some point? - yeah but so does everything else computer related. And again, for the price, this thing is amazeballs. Simple, easy, and ready to go when I need it. Just like my husband.

The device works great. But, was worried it would be broken (DOA) due to the packaging being torn and apparently crushed. Very satisfied with product, appalled by apparent treatment of the package.

This will, in fact, work on a Mac: Some reviews and answers suggest this is not Mac-compatible; however, heres the skinny: This unit is plug and play, meaning no setup is required. (Note: The software CD that comes with it is NOT necessary for use; its just a free media suite.) The problem lies in the fact that, when a BLANK disc is inserted, the drive doesnt appear in Finder, which is no doubt confusing. (A disc with content will appear normally.) One method to confirm it is recognized is to go to About This Mac > Storage. To burn a file to a blank disc: Control-click your file and select Burn your_file to Disc — a popup box should give you the option to select the external drive. NOTE: Samsung no longer supports external optical drives. No tech support, no warranty claims via manufacturer.

I bought this product mainly for ripping DVDs, but as a bonus I was expecting it to play DVDs on my TV as well. Although it plays DVDs on my laptop just fine, it does not work on the TV (which happens to be an LG Smart TV). For those who are struggling with this, make sure to read the instructions. Before inserting a DVD, make sure to open the eject button, hold down the power button (the only button) for two seconds until the green light turns on, and then insert the DVD. This puts it into TV mode. When I plugged the DVD player into the TV (note - it is a USB connection), I had to install DivX Software which allowed the TV to recognize the DVD player, but unfortunately it could not read the files that were on it and instead just showed a blank screen without any files to choose from. In comparison, I have hooked up an external hard drive (with ripped DVD files) to the same TV, and it recognizes the files just fine. Although it is an inconvenience, I was able to work around the problem by ripping the DVD to my hard drive, and then using the hard drive to play the videos on my TV. Either way, it would have been nice to have something that doubled as a DVD player since I dont intend on ripping every DVD I get.

I began hunting around for a decent-quality USB CD Drive after opting for a desktop case that did not include a standard CD Drive slot. I came across this model, and opted to purchase due to positive reviews. The drive does not disappoint. I do not use it very often since it is rare I have a need for CDs, but it does everything it was designed to do. I have played movies, burned bootable ISO disks, etc. You name it - this drive does it. Solid overall construction. It comes with a USB cable that plugs into the back of the unit. The only quality some may see as a negative is the sound. It is not exactly a quiet unit. But as a buyer, I recommend you look last this piece in favor of the great build quality. It is a CD drive - it is supposed to make noise. Noise aside - 5 stars, would buy again.

This is a pretty good drive for the price. My Macbook pro reads it immediately after I plug it in. Ive used it to burn CDs and play games and so far I havent had any problems with them loading. Its also a plus that I didnt have to download any software for it to work. Its very lightweight and thin which I really like as its very portable, although I do think it can get a little noisy at times. The eject button occasionally doesnt work, but its not such a big deal as I just eject the content through my laptop. And speaking of the eject button, its thin and sometimes hard to press. Its a good and reliable alternative to the more pricey hard drives out in the market. It has its flaws, but it cant be beat for the price.

I purchased 4 of these, primarily to backup DVD to hard drive. I connect all 4 drives to a single PC and use them all simultaneously. I had real concerns about whether or not this would work, for a number of reasons. So far Ive worked through a few hundred DVD and had ZERO failures. All discs have been read successfully and theyre plenty fast. Im sure they would work well under any OS like Mac or Windows, I happen to be using Linux. The software I use to backup DVD is the command line program dd.

I needed a cd drive for tax software this year. Purchased this. Didnt need the CD it came with, updated and installed on my windows tablet incredibly fast and worked instantly. Worked on my older mac desktop as well. Not a problem. Then this morning, when installing Business tax software, I dropped the drive off the edge of my desk, and it was caught by the cord, however the CD holder and the rails came flying out. bummer. Completely my fault, it feels very thin and cheaply made so I assumed it was gone. But after putting the rails on the CD holder and shoving it back in, I heard cracking and clicking, and low and behold, it still works! Ill probably never use this again, but it works in case I need it! Thanks LG!
