They claim these refills last up to two weeks for a single cat, but that is really stretching the truth. Count on about a week of normal litterbox use. For these to last 2 weeks, you would have to starve your cat of food and water and tie the bags as close as possible on both ends so that not a single inch is wasted. 2 weeks, sure, maybe for a kitten, but certainly not a full grown cat. 3 stars because its a good product, but minus 2 stars for the deceptive advertising.

im a rescue mama, and im also legally disabled so being able to keep the litter box at least reasonably clean without necessarily having to dump a trash bag every day is appreciated. this works pretty well for me, and when i had my bbs pet-sat this summer my pet-sitter was yeah, these are good setups, a lot of my clients have one and i appreciate that you do. basically when i see the last one sitting out im time to order another.

I love that you can pull it out to any length wanted. Definitely holds the smell. Once you take it out & tie it up, you can smell the bag & cant smell poop. Yes I tried to smell cat poop. No other way to find out if it held odor as described lol. Im not good at tying knots in anything but my shoes so I use zip ties.

I have a Litter Genie beside every litter box. Wouldn’t want to be without these. I scoop the boxes frequently and odors are contained until trash day.

I bought a Pet Genie a few years ago after a friend raved about her Litter Genie. I loved it! I live in an apartment with 3+ dogs (I am also a dog trainer/sitter), and the dumpster is a good hike away, making it far easier to toss a bag of dog poo into a waste bin. And I have an elderly dog who uses pee pads. The genie contains all of the smell, and has seriously simplified my life. Then, suddenly the refills for the Pet Genie were getting harder and harder to find! I purchased a the Dooli adapter to use their bags, but just wasnt happy with it, and even tried garbage bags. After much deliberation I ordered a Litter Genie refill, and I am SO happy to find that it fits! Its the one that consistently contains the smell and is the easiest to dispose of.

The Good News: Litter boxes still must be scooped frequently - nothing changes with that part - but, using the Litter Genie, it isnt necessary to carry the soiled litter to the trash immediately. This is a big plus for me, as multiple daily trips to the trash room 2 flights downstairs can now be avoided. The soiled cat litter scent and the less than appealing visual mess is all contained in a fairly decent looking contraption. The plastic disposal liners are super heavy weight so no problems at all with them leaking or tearing or in any way not containing the used litter. Once you figure out how to do it ( the directions could be more clear) tearing off the liner when it is full and pulling out more is pretty easy. It works like a sausage casing that you knot at one end, fill up with used litter, then tear off and knot off the top end when it is full. You pull out additional length that you knot off again and start over. You get 3 full sausages from each refill cartridge. For me with 2 cats, that is about 18 days per cartridge. The Less Than Good News: The refill cartridges arent cheap; this is going to get expensive over time. The used clumped litter does not easily fall down into the lower compartment as the opening is rather narrow. The whole contraption needs to be cleaned as soiled litter gets stuck around the edges where it is dropped in . Bottom Line: I like it and I will continue to use it. I clean the contraption each week when I discard the liner, and it isnt that big of deal. Buying the refills on Amazon in quantity to qualify for free shipping helps to bring the price down. Also, the Litter Genie is available at Bed, Bath and Beyond and you can use the coupons they send out all the time. Price is better than Pet Co.

I used to dump the dirty cat litter in a bag and then throw it out when it got full. Im in a wheelchair, so I cant get my trash to the dumpster every day. That litter smelled awful and the bag was heavy! I bought the litter genie and I love it! Its so easy to use! The refill fits right in and lasts a while. You just pull the bag down and tie the end. I have to use the refill more often because I have 2 large cats & 2 litter boxes, but for the average user the refill should last a long time. When youre through with one refill, just throw it away and put the next one in.

    Greater than one week

Decided to get the litter Genie and have to say, works great. The bag refill is fairly easy to use once you have put in the 1st cartridge. The bags are thick, can hold a weeks worth of cat doo no problem. I have 2 cats and it is full by end of week. Doesnt RIP or tear so far when emptying. Had for 4 months now and replace cartridge 1 time a month for 2 cats. Cuts down smell, and I dont worry about it smelling up garbage can since I tie the bag.

I love the Litter Genie. It saves me a dozen trash bags a week, and makes the cats bathroom smells better. The cartridge has good enough design, and the pull down bags are thick and great quality. It takes a minute to remove the litter filled bag, and install the new one. The only complaint I have are the cartridges are a bit expensive. My cat is very active and produce a lot. So a genie cartridge definitely does not last two months. But thats not a flaw in the product itself. So I still give this a 5 star. Another thing I havent figure out is when the bag would run out. I dont keep track, or I lost track all the time. So I do cheat by using regular 13 gallon bags in the Litter Genie. Using the garbage bags is a good way to save, and its always well stocked at home (if not, grocery bags can be used though a bit short). But the garbage bags are much thinner, get caught in the divider sometimes, does not shield odor as well, and cost a few minutes to install. So I still purchase the refill cartridge from Amazon. Because Im not sure when the included bag would run out, I keep the empty cartridge ring and use it with garbage bags when I run out of included bags. Heres how I use the cartridge ring and included bags: Follow direction to install bag. Tie the bottom of the bag with a rubber band. Heres how I use garbage bags: Open up garbage bag. Install bag similar to original bag with the opening wrapped around the cartridge ring. Add a rubber band to secure garbage bag around the cartridge below the black top. One thing I do pay special attention to is when I install/remove bags on the Genie, I always wear disposable gloves. I remove litter and replace bags every week, but dont wash the Genie every week. Because theres no way to avoid litter coming into contact with the pail, I always try to play safe.
