Dummy loads and antenna analyzer are the two tools youll go to everytime your radio gives you hiccups. The dummy load simulates a perfect antenna that can be used a reference point. I was originally going to give this a zero star review because it arrived to me open circuit. Inside a dummy load is a resistor. A non-inductive, pulse withstanding resistor, typically of this price level its a carbon composition or a carbon pile with horrific temper coefficients, but still. a 50 ohm 10% resistor. Mine was an open circuit, which I detected from my analyzer... thank god I didnt put it directly to my radio. The case was aluminum but the mating surfaces wouldnt conduct. I disassembled both resistor mounting brackets, after checking continuity and getting nothing. rubbed everything shiny with 0000 steel wool. reassembled, perfect. However the 259 bulkhead cant see it. I had to take the bulkhead off, polish the metal surface, reinstall/solder the bulkhead, and now R = 53. I essentially had to rebuild it from a full disassembly. Whoever put that hand written green QC sticker on it never tested. you know what they say, MJF = mighty fine junk Always test your equipment before using them to test something more expensive. cheers. This dummy load was DOA (dead on arrival). I tested with an ohmmeter and then with a Nano VNA, it was open circuit. I took the case off and inspected it, and did some probing with the ohm meter, the actual big fat resistor was 51.5 ohms, which was within the specification, that was not the issue. The problem is that one end of the resistor clamp relies on a push fit contact with the aluminum case for the return earth path. Aluminum oxidizes to produce aluminum oxide (AL2 O3) with is an isolator, so there is an insulator between the 50 resistor and the case. Ive read other reviews where people have fixed it, well aluminum can oxidize in as little as 1 month so I would not trust that fix. Im not going to risk my $1000 transceiver on this piece of junk. This is a very poor design, has a fatal error and can only be fixed by installing a dedicated copper earth return wire back to the connector. So I guess its true what I read online MFJ = Mighty Fine Junk

It’s a dummy load. It loads up and is a dummy. What’s more to say? It works.

I used it to check out the feedline to my antennas.
