> 3 dayThis router is not for children. You need to have some network background. As long as you do, this router is amazing. Incredibly fast and very flexible. I use the USB port for backup connectivity through a cellular modem and it works well. I have three issues with the router; 1. LCD touch screen is unusable, but luckily not needed. 2. The plug in for the power is poorly designed and easy to accidently unplug. Not an issue once its rack mounted. 3. It would be nice to have more than one SFP port.

> 3 dayYou can get into trouble with RouterOS if you dont know what youre doing. Nonetheless, this switch offers great features and flexibility. Im using these with Polycom phones and Vonage Business in two separate offices. Ive had great results and not a single network issue. Ive never restarted the router since I put it into use.

> 3 dayThis is a great product for a fraction of the cost of other manufacturers. We should have gotten the Wi-Fi option that came with a similar model but well just use an Access Point. Great shipping and packaging. Also, plenty of paper receipts and manufacturers information came with the box. This will make it easy to deal with my clients and customer service if needed. The touch screen is friendly and big enough for the job. The web interface is loaded with features. I have found plenty of local techs being able to support this technology and help with me setting up the many features. Thanks!

> 3 dayThis is, by far, the best router for the money on the market. Another persons complaint about the external PS is without merit because most of Mikrotiks hardware is designed to function PoE, making an internal PS more limiting. Internal PSs also produce the most heat and keeping it external prolongs the life of the unit. I cant imagine why someone would need to fiddle with the unit and move it around or tamper with the PS port unless you are in a college dorm environment or a cramped space in a cubicle. Plug it in, program it and leave it alone - thats the beauty of these things. Ive got 5 different Mikrotik devices and as long as you are willing to learn about RouterOS and delve into the programming therein, this device is as close to an enterprise level device as you can get, and at a fraction of the cost. The tech support guys in Latvia are more than willing to jump in and help you (via email) if you have any issues or questions, something I cannot find with respects to the traditional routers you might purchase at a big box store. This device will improve your connectivity by keeping your connection solid and it will (if you program it) keep intruders OUT of your network. It supports both Fiber Optic SFP connections (1) and or an Ethernet feed to your modem. Its completely and independently programmable for each port or they can all be bridged together as a switch. Its gigabit and with the built in ARM processor it handles 10 high definition 3&4MP camera streams, nine PCs and a home server with no problems. Any standard router dies in 6 months and every Microtik I own (since 2010) is still in service. Whats awesome about these machines is the firmware and software is always being improved and the owner can upload the latest improvements and apply them on the fly. This is more likened to a miniature laptop that you can upgrade the OS environment for free by downloading the latest upgrades and applying them. As IPV6 rolls in this device is already ready for the implementation and you wont have to go out and purchase a new box to work with your ISPs new modem. This device gives you full control of your network and takes your ISPs fingers out of the environment. For the money, it is the BEST firewall system you can purchase for a home network.

> 3 dayImmensely better than normal consumer grade routers. Basically everything youd get from a $2-5K router for less than $200. Im pretty amazed with it.

> 3 dayIm partner in a multi-national MSP, and have deployed hundreds of Mikrotik devices. In short, this is the best bang-for-your-buck router possible for a small-medium size business. The RB3011 is an absolute monster router for the price. $170 for a 1U 10-port gigabit, SFP, and 6Gbps of WAN>LAN potential throughput. Though none of the ports can go faster than 1Gbps, the processing power is still there. When I ran a comparison of the specs between this and say, an equivalent Sonicwall (already lower-end gear), its $170 for a RB3011-RM vs a $3,400 for a Sonicwall NSA 2600, more features too. When you hold the device it feels like a prop, its nearly empty since Mikrotik designs their equipment around CPU-based routing over dedicated hardware. It allows for the feature-set to be upgraded over time, increases reliability, and massively reduces cost. Though its not uncommon for a switch to fail... and its not impossible for a CPU to fail, when is the last time youve see a mid-range (non-server) CPU actually just completely die? Probably pretty rare. We have a few Mikrotik routers with over 3 years uptime, just cranking along without issues. Another benefit -- everything is unlocked, no insane licensing fees like with Cisco gear! 50+ L2TP VPN users -- no problem! MPLS, Wireless Hotspot through the CAPsMAN Wireless Manager, Layer7 filtering. Mikrotik gives you all of the bells and whistles to work with, but no hand-holding -- you need to be familiar with network concepts and spend some time following their wiki. Mikrotik equipment is targeted at Wireless ISPs and networking professionals -- not for beginners to computers. Good luck, have fun, for $170 it cant hurt to buy one and play with it a bit. Once you see the feature set for yourself, youll likely be buying more of these.

> 3 dayI am an engineering prosumer in the sense that as a teleworker, my day to day usage of bandwidth is pretty sizable (multiple machines on multiple VPNs, many connected devices). Having bought and configured the routerboard a few months ago now, Im kicking myself for not doing so earlier. Not only does it do exactly what I need, but I found the RouterOS command line interface quite intuitive to learn and use. The metrics are also fantastic for debugging what went wrong and for analyzing usage. I actually discovered through inspection of server logs that an IP address in China was attempting to brute force login to an SSH gateway I had set up. Moments later, I had a firewall rule that blackholed all traffic from that IP and I could visualize how many packets from that source was being dropped. Needless to say, I have been impressed by the routers versatility and configurability. For interested buyers, I would recommend anticipating banking at least a few hours to learn the system and get the hang of things. One thing that could be improved somewhat is the documentation, but so long as you take your time and reason about what is happening, things generally work as intended. That said, for many users, I suspect the default configuration will be enough to get you going.

> 3 dayVary Strong Router, One of the strongest i have worked with, However i am only giving it 3 stars because, Documentation sucks! Online videos are typically not in English. That said if you have a network engineering background dont hesitate. if you are a home owner or a small business owner this is probably not the right product for you. Well Not until they get some better setup videos. However there forum is loaded with great firewall programming code. But this product is not for the network beginner.

> 3 dayI spent ten hours on simply trying to port forward one single port, using every method anyone proposed and every interface I could find, and was never able to get it to work. This has been one of the most frustrating experiences of my life. Back to Amazon it goes.
