Mitutoyo 293-185-30 Quantumike, Micrometer, DIGIMATIC, 0-1, IP65.00005, NO SPC, Black/Gray

Ive started to see a lot more of these in machine shops and production environments. In my opinion this is the new standard for digital 0-1 micrometers.

It doesnt get much better; accurate to half a tenth. I defy people who claim it works without batteries to explain how.

I am using this at my reloading bench. Perfect for the job.

This mic is very easy to use. It has a rapid travel.

Very useful in a home shop when one is constantly measuring and checking dimensions in both imperial and metric measurement. The Quantumike has a faster screw than most other mikes, which allows faster measurements to be made. Due to its accuracy, one needs to occasionally check the zero and to clean the tips. I find using a single sheet of paper and closing the tips onto the paper is a very effective way to clean the anvils of fluids or chips. Its amazing to measure things to tenths of a thousandth with little drama. Yes, one can do that with many old school micrometers, but this unit has very good display quality, which is helpful in poor lighting and declining eyes. Its very handy to switch from imperial to metric at the push of a button - no more calculator blunders.

I opened this micrometer today. It is packed in paper that has been treated chemically and is identified as a health hazard. I had the micrometer for only 1/2 hour. It stopped working and now reads ERR-5. The included documentation consists of a few cartoons. No support information or contact is included. I searched for online help, but everything is for people in companies. You cant fill out a support request without a company name. I did so anyway and have not yet heard back. This has been a money losing and frustrating experience.

Fit and finish is amazing. Accuracy is dead on. My inspection report had measured values of 0 across the board, and gage blocks confirm it. I wish there was an on off button though, but it has a 20 minute auto shut off and you can use the thimble lock to keep it from turning on from bumps. Overall very impressed, glad I went with this over a cheaper option.
