> 24 hourThe headline almost says it all, people. For those of you out there who are unaware, my husband is a commercial cabinetmaker. He uses a lot of shims. A LOT of shims. So, when it comes to them, he knows what he’s talking about. When I told him his shims had arrived, he just kind of shrugged and acknowledged me. A few hours went by, when out of nowhere, I heard him exclaim, “These are really good shims,” and he has since told me more than once I “need to give those shims a really good review.” So, here it is, people. A really good review of these shims. Which brings me to the… Bottom line: hubby is impressed, and he does not impress easily. Highly, highly recommended.

> 24 hourI have used wedges just like these for everything from correcting a slight difference in floors between two rooms to putting them under my Christmas trees base plate for leveling purposes. Alas, I had run out of them though. Thats why when I saw these, I jumped at the opportunity to stock up again. very economical too. The claim is made that these are better than pine or cedar wedges and I have to agree. They are extremely easy to size without spitting. All in all, Im very happy with them and highly recommend.

> 24 hourSome of the shims have a pointy edge like the should but a lot of them are somewhat thick at the point edge. Better to get siding shingles and cut the to size.

> 24 hourI have only used the generic type of shims sold at hardware stores, so this was a nice upgrade. They are more consistently shaped and less prone to splitting. The price is also on the high side, but they are worth it if you want to spare some annoyance. I have an old home where nothing is straight, so I use a lot of shims for simple projects like door and window replacements. These are extremely useful.

> 24 hourAs a homeowner doing a lot of DIY in my small apartment that has no right angles ever, shims are always in need to level mounted furniture, fill in gaps before spackling, and so on. I dont know if I will ever get through this massive pack of shims but I would rather have them on hand instead of constantly having to head out to a hardware store that often doesnt have them in stock! I cant speak to how split resistant they are but they do seem like better quality than the unbranded ones available at my local store.

> 24 hourI like using wood shims rather than plastic because I can cut them down so theyre not sticking out beyond my furniture legs. By cutting them I can actually get 3 shims out of one. Stacking them in opposite directions gives me more height too. These shims are exactly the same ones they sell in hardware stores. Theyre top quality and I would definitely recommend!

> 24 hourThis 84-pack of 8-inch shims comes in a box that can be continued to use for storage as you are using the shims. This is a bonus compared to plastic wrap that when opened you have a bunch of loose shims all around. The shims are a standard size you would expect unless you were looking for door shims. These are contractor grade shims and are comparable to what I used in the past. The angle on them is good. The shims go to taper to a height between 1/4+ to 5/16. Most of the shims measured to 7-13/16. I did count 84 shims in the box as well. If you need shims, this is a decent set.
