I like that you pop the amiibo on top and it reads it it works for 3ds xl it needs to be usb rechargeable though like a pokeball is

I have not used this Nintendo NFC reader, but have it as a Nintendo collection item for my future game room.

didnt expect the instruction is in japanese. However it works fine with my boy nintendo 3DS. Dont have any problem with it, just plug in and play

Seems to do exactly what the kids needed it to. Price on Amazon was the best at holiday time compared to stores. I like that it is compact in size.

Glad I was able to get a hold of this product. I just purchased the new version of Metroid and the Amiibos that went with it, but I have an older 3DS that does not have the reader built in. I didnt want to purchase a new system, so I bought this product instead. I was a little surprised that I received the non-English version of packaging since the listing also had an English version, but it still works as expected and was able to set it up without any issues. Works exactly as I needed.

Works great with my amibo and with my 3ds and 2ds.

There were a lot of questions about compatibility I had to do a lot of googling about before pulling the trigger. If someone had taken the more common questions and added the answers to the description this would have been a no-brainer. If you plan on keep your older xDS hardware around and use amiibos then you need this. Luckily the NEW 3DSes and the soon to be released NEW 2DS have this function built in.

I bought the NFC Reader/Writer mainly for using the Amiibo Cards in Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer. I wasnt really sure what to expect from it and actually was a little skeptical at first. New gadgets often bring that out in me anyway. The actual product is shaped like a small hockey puck, is fairly small and light weight. Despite its size and weight the actual unit feels well made and quite sturdy. By sturdy I mean it could probably live through some minor bumps and fumbles from your kiddo accidentally dropping it on the table from a short distance or even rolling across the table onto the carpeted floor (which all occurred courtesy of my 7-year old). The unit runs off of 2 AA Batteries which are included. The BEST thing is that the batteries are super easy to install - I didnt need to find a tiny screwdriver to loosen tiny screws to reach the battery door! Nope - I could just pop that thing open and get on with the gaming. I dont have any kids younger than 7 here so access to the batteries is not an issue in my household, but may be something to think about if you do. Syncing it to my 3DS was easy, like seriously push button easy and go. So far I have not had any issues with the unit and it has taken minor hits and falls to boot. The size is great because it easily fits in my sons 3DS Carrier with his handheld, cord and some games without issue. Bonus is that he can easily use it himself, it turns itself off after 5 mins of inactivity in case he forgets so no battery drainage, I dont feel like I need to guard the thing because it feels well made for the most part and he doesnt get frustrated and wants to play with it.

The 3DS is able to communicate with the nfc reader in that the console can tell that the nfc reader is up-to-date. The item was used and came bubble wrapped inside a prime shipping box. There’s uneven yellowing throughout the top and sides of the reader while the bottom white color remained intact. The yellowing should have been mentioned in the product’s Used Description as this is part of the condition of the item. For the aforementioned reason, I cannot give 5 stars.
