Osprey Savu Lumbar Hydration Pack (2020 Model)

Its really nice to see a company take pride in what they do, putting customer first. Truly out standing. Well worth the price!

Savu pack is fantastic Osprey quality and versatility. Inner pockets have enough storage for typical MTB kit and the small side pockets are great for keys/small men’s wallet. Phone specific pocket is also great. My only complaint is associated with how water bottles sit and their retention. The bottles barely sit over the bottom straps whose purpose is to help keep them from falling out of the bottom of the pack while riding. Due to this you have to make sure the top elastic retention strap is positioned well around the bottle body/lid to keep it from falling out while riding. Seems like a simple design fix, but definitely needs addressed by Osprey. Other than that I love the pack. Stays in place with very little movement, even down rough terrain and jump lines.

I had a lumbar pack with just one giant zip pocket made of a very light ripstop. It served very well, but one giant pocket made it hard to get to the small items I like to carry (chapstick, small pocketknife, nail file, pen) because theyd wiggle to the bottom every time. I am doing a lot of hiking and biking these days, so being able to carry a water bottle is very important. I like to keep gatorade in my bottles, so a bladder isnt really the best choice. I debated between the Savu and the bladder model of similar size, and ultimately decided to get this one. I wanted more zip compartments or pockets so I could organize my things better. I tried the bag the first time yesterday on an all-afternoon mountain biking trip with the family. I was very pleased with how everything worked. I loaded it up with two smaller water bottles, 3 granola/clif bars, my keys, a tissue pouch, my wallet, chapstick, nail file, pocket knife, smartphone, a printed map, a pen. There was still room for more stuff if Id needed a multitool, for example. Throughout the day I was able to locate my things without difficulty and the weight on my belt area was no trouble. Everything felt very secure. I tested the bag with two very large water bottles--1 Liter each, that fit into an ordinary bike cage. They fit just fine into the pockets, though they were tall enough to touch my back near my shoulder blades while standing. If Id been bent over in riding position they probably wouldnt have touched me, but I didnt need that much gatorade. The smaller bottles stayed put in the snap pockets and never tried to slip through, even when riding over some rough stuff. Overall, very pleased with the performance of the bag. It does exactly what I wanted.

Ive tried slightly larger sizes of lumbar packs, but you end up putting too much gear in and they dont stay in place. This lumber pack is perfect for a small first aid kit and some snacks for a day hike.

Halfway through my first ride I forgot I was wearing it. Very comfortable. Im glad I spent a little extra and got a good pack for mountain biking. Well worth it.

This fannie pack is great for short hikes; water, snack, essentials.

With 76% 5-Star ratings I decided to ignore the few 1-star that said this does not hold a water bottle. Low and behold, it does not hold a water bottle in either of its two Water Bottle Holders. They fall right out the bottom. I thought, well maybe if I tighten this thing enough it will squish the bottle in tight and it will stay. I went for a ride, came to my first rest and reached back for my water bottle. Low and behold, it vanished without a sound or trace, Just like this bag from my kit. Return.

Carries everything you need for a short to medium length ride. Room for tools, snacks for you and your dog, two water bottles (or one and a bear spray) Add your wallet and cellphone to that photo too. The only small con (one star off) is that the hip tensioners on mine loosen a little requiring an adjustment once an hour or so - not remotely a deal breaker though. Great product.
