Unnecessary but a very nice addition if you like the game. Very high quality mat. If you enjoy the game, this mat would make a pleasant addition but it would not be required. We love the mat it’s very well made. I think it’s fun especially for your favorite games to add some extra bling. Also if you have a friend who lives the game it would make a nice gift.

Originally, I had forgotten to purchase this playmat during the Parks kickstarter. I was ecstatic to find out they were selling them through Amazon once Parks had its retail release. Its a near identical replication of the included folding playing board in the Parks box, except its much larger to include spaces for all the tokens and game pieces. The only slight nitpick I have is that the carrying tube didnt seal properly until I poked a tiny hole in the cap so air could escape while sealing it, but whatever. :)

For frequent players of this amazing game. The board that comes with the game still has bends and never quite sits flat. This mat gives more room and adds to the experience. Let’s face it, a big part of the game is the way it looks. This mat makes it even more visually appealing.
