I changed my old hard drive to a new Samsung Evo 860 SSD and increased my RAM to 16 GB. It is like having a new laptop.

Samsung DDR3L sodimm worked in old Dell XPS L502x resulting in 16gb memory at 1600Mhz. That and new sata ssd made old laptop usable for a few more years.

My computer had 2x4 Gb Samsung 204-pin SODIMM, DDR3 PC3L-12800, 1600MHz ram, I needed a matched set of 8 Gb to stay with dual channel. Went in great and worked no snags. Note: I Updated the computer bios prior to installation, and this is a must! I am not totally sure that I needed the extra 8 Gb of ram, but that was all I could do to upgrade the computer. I would not have been happy with less than the max.
