I bought a Wester Digital drive and the drive went out in 31 days and Western Digital would not provide a replacement without me returning the one that went bad and was full of personal and sensitive information. They ran me around in a circle for 2 weeks then decide not to replace the item. I offered to pay a fee to keep and destroy the old one. I bought a 5TB Seagate for less money from Amazon and got it the same day. I have had one for 10 years and got this one because of the 5TB storage. No more Wester Digital.

Bought this to back up a ton of image files and so far its working perfectly. The interface I found quirky, but finally figured it out. I gave a three for tech support only because I havent used it. I doubt Ill be porting this anywhere, but, if I were, its exceedingly compact and the fact that it runs off USB power is a huge plus. Overall, great purchase at an amazing price..

Let me preface with, I have a 2-year old windows 10 machine with 32GB RAM. The machine is configured for graphics and photos, so there is a hefty display card. When I first unpacked this drive, I plugged it into one of my USB 3.0 ports and installed the software. Right after that, I was getting mouse and keyboard lags some short and some for 10 seconds or more. Unplugged the drive, shut down the software, lags disappear. So I uninstalled the software and decided to use Windows backup. But, when I plugged the drive in again, same thing - keyboard and mouse lag (freezing up as if there was an extreme performance hit) I unplugged it from the USB 3.0 port (5 Gbps)and plugged it into the USB 3.1 port with 10 Gbps transfer speed and problem solved. Now, I have to buy a USB extension, because the one that they sent was obviously meant for a laptop and not my console machine. It is a small drive for its storage capacity - so thats good.

This is my 4th Seagate. I’ve only one issue with them before as far as losing files. This time it is a different issue. I noticed after awhile that my Mac book would say it was disconnected without ejecting first. Each time I checked, it was still plugged in and I could see it was connected on my Mac book. Then I it started happening more and more. Now I can barely get it to connect at all. Sometimes the cord entirely slips outside of the port. I have tried several cords and it is all the same. So I assume the port is too loose. It is only 2 months old at this point. I’ll be asking for a replacement.

Im currently doing a full format of this hard drive. I have the 5TB version. Ive always been a fan of Seagates portable hard drive, as Ive been using it mostly for my Xboxes (I have 3 xbox for different rooms, each with a 2TB Seagate drive). I decided to build my first ever PC in January 2020, and used this hard drive as my storage along with my m.2 ssd for my boot drive, and 1TB SATA SSD for Steam and Blizzard games. Everything was going great with this hard drive. I even used it to install most of my Xbox Game Pass games for Windows 10 as well as my content creation from photoshop to 4K videos. However, on October 2020, things got funky out of nowhere for some odd reason. Literally, I just finished filming and I was transferring a few 4K video files via my micro SD card to this drive. Ive never had issues in the past couple months, but the read and write speed was out of wack for some reason. I tried blaming my PC built since I overlocked the RAM via XMP-profile, and my hunch was that the voltage is possibly messing it up, so I resetted everything to default, but I came to find that it wasnt the cause since everything was going well even with XMP on or off except when transferring or moving files to and from this hard drive. Luckily, I have a backup 1TB SSD drive that I transferred all my majorly important files to (4K vids and photos), it was a pain staking 6 hours wait because of the continuous fluctution in transfer speed, dropping from 0kb/s to only getting up to 90mb/s. From there, I wiped out everything and am currently doing a full format in hopes that it will fix the issue. All in all, I think this is great for consoles, but not for PC or Mac.

I bought this device as my old one was almost full. While is saw many good reviews about it, I also saw some not so good ones. My old external hard drive was the same Seagate brand 500G and worked perfectly, never had a problem so I decided to buy the same brand; BIG MISTAKE!! This was troublesome from the word go. It froze my computer, which popped up a blue screen and automatically restarted. Thankfully I didnt lose any info. I then registered the product to see if it would help. Then tried to copy some old videos to it but it took sooooooo long! When it finally finished, some of the videos wouldnt start and some werent copied. I didnt waste time, I returned it immediately. Ill buy another brand.

I use this drive strictly for backups. It has enough room to create and store multiple system images quickly and easily.

Works perfectly right out of the box. Didn’t rate tech support because I didn’t need to use it.

This portable drive has 5T storage capacity. It will work with Macs and uses Macs Time Machine application. I had some trouble setting it up on two Mac laptops I own. I called tech support and they are terrific. I had to call several times for different issues on each machine and they were extremely helpful. First, they call you back within a few minutes. They are patient, professional, polite, and extremely knowledgeable about their drive and about the Mac operating system. So, they walked me through very specific steps that I could easily follow and for each issue, they were able to find a solution such that the drive now works on both machines and automatically backs up the system as soon as the drive is plugged in. The cost of the drive is very reasonable for the amount of storage it provides. Although I had to call tech support several times, Im glad I did and glad to have this external storage for backup.

Simply plug in and play. 3 years and counting this device still working. Planning to buy it again.
