SHIMANO SPD-SL Cleat Set

> 3 dayI have used this type of cleat for about five years. It took a little getting used to but once I did I will not go back to regular pedals or sturrup straps. Word of warning: When starting out PRACTICE using the cleats in a parking lot until the turn-out release becomes a reflex. I have used sturrup straps since the 60s and now see a definite safety advantage using cleats. I ride a Bacchetta Giro 26 with an average ride between 14 and 20 miles. I ride roads and metro traffic. On a high rider recumbent I get push and pull action on the pedals. This is a definate plus for fast acceleration. Purchase cleat covers to extend the life of the cleats. Plan on purchasing a set at least once a season; more often if you do not use covers. These cleats are hard plastic and will need to be replaced as the become more difficult to release. I keep a second set on the shelf. Thank you for a great product!

Greater than one weekIts the price for these things that kill my rating... I go through a pair of these every six months and covers are a pain in the rear to lug around all the time.

> 3 dayWe all know cleats are not made for walking, but we all know a little walking is unavoidable while going out for rides. And here is where Shimano fails completely, with its anti slip yellow pads which are a complete joke, for they will wear off really fast, and in many cases, just come apart on the very first ride. Is it a sneaky marketing strategy to get us buying more? I dont know, but Im about to start looking for more durable solutions.

Greater than one weekDefinite upgrade from the high-float yellow cleats. Only downside is that you REALLY need your shoe/cleat/pedal fit dialed in. If you were off on the yellows, the float would let you adjust. Not so much with these. You will be able to tell if you are off after your first long ride. However... Cannot recommend these cleats highly enough with a proper fit! Really locks you in tight for throwing the hammer down in sprints, but releases easily just as other SPD-SL cleats. The perfect balance between Yellow (high-float) and Red (no float) cleats.

Greater than one weekIt is what it is. If you ride Shimano road pedals, you use these. But they wear out quickly when you walk on them, and that gets expensive. Buy the rubber clip-on protectors and carry them with you on rides where you expect to walk even a short distance, especially on asphalt or gravel.

> 3 dayRecently Ive been having problems with the quality of these - the yellow protector bits have been snapping off on my last few pairs with far less abuse than my older pairs of SPD-SL cleats received.
