I used a 3/8th bit to drill through the wood door. Just by tilting the screws in place youll have to perfect the positioning with help of a level. The gap: Gap between the metal plate and the door is so small that I likely wouldnt have noticed it have it not been for people talking about it. You do not need to do anything about it. But... I used a drill bit to drive in the bolts as opposed to the allen key. This may be why I have little to no opening whereas I can imagine someone using an allen key not being able to get the screw in as much which would leave then a bigger gap. But sure, you can recess in the door , or caulk the edges, but I vote to let it be.

My builder was going to use standard drawer pulls for my interior barn doors. How was I going to open from the inside with only 1 side having a handle? These are much thicker pulls and the inside piece is deep enough to get a finger hold to slide the door but doesnt bang into the trim.

Love the massiveness of the handles. Great value and impressive look. Had issue with first set being rusted. Messaged seller and they sent replacement immediately. Love the handles.
