> 24 hourI wanted this type of scotch eye / settlers tool quite a while ago, but due to price and lack of availability, I purchased a different one that did not have a sharpened eye, was not stainless steel, was much longer and had a more auger style twisted bit that has 2 cutting planes instead of 4. Im glad now that i got that other one first, and bought this one later on sale. This model just doesnt cut as well as the auger style one. It takes much longer, and much more effort pushing into the wood as it just doesnt want to bite in. Ive only used these on oak, so im not sure how they perform on softer woods. This one also looks more difficult to sharpen due to the points on the end of each of the cutting faces. If you have files an dont mind sharpening the eye, and cleaning up the weld yourself, id suggest something like this one. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B086JPN9FB/ And no, I am in no way affiliated, nor did i receive any promotions for either of these products. Im just giving my opinion from my personal experience with them both.

> 24 hourI havent used it yet and I hope I never have to. I just bought it just in case I have to live in the woods one day. It would be a very handy to have.

> 24 hourThis little tool works really well! It makes a nice smooth peg and hole. The weld isnt super clean and neat, but it does the job as intended. Its nice that it comes with a little pouch to keep it in. I dont know how often well actually need this, but its a nice bushcraft tool to add to our toolkit.

> 24 hourSturdy, very well-made tool; sharp cutting edges, fully functional. Unboxed it, checked end to end - welds are clean and polished smooth. Self-tapping tip bites in easily; minimal pressure to make it bite, and pulls tool into wood - grabbed a cutting from one of my Fig trees that didn’t survive the big freeze last year, and it practically jumped through the bark and into the trunk in about a half-dozen turns. When auger planes started to bite, resistance was there (suggest a heavy glove to protect your hands - the Scotch Eye is SHARP!) and became tough, I slid a screwdriver through as a cheater bar. Will cut a short (6-8”) piece of 1” hardwood dowel and bundle with my kit in the Go Bag…in the field, the tool will allow one to make a replacement, but in prep, why not take one with. All in all, a great tool, good value, and a courteous vendor. Top marks all around.
