This is an incredibly powerful calculator, only really necessary for university level engineering or similar. I honestly wouldn’t recommend it for less than that because the menu based interface can slow you down and takes a while to learn. If you don’t need to do matrices of complex numbers in phasor form then get a TI84

With the price point of new TI Graphing calculators being so close, from the standpoint of cost alone it makes sense to get one of these rather than a new TI-83 Plus, TI-84 Color, or TI-89 Titanium, since this calculator can do so much more than any of those other models. The user interface (in terms of buttons and what is on-screen) of the nspire series of calculators strays fairly drastically from the traditional TI graphing calculators, so if you are buying this calculator for school, you should plan to spend some time out of class getting used to how to do things on it. You dont want to be struggling through calculations when in a time crunch of a test, for example. I recommended this calculator for all serious math and engineering students. Im so glad I bought one.

I bought this for my Middle School son who does enriched math. I was going to get a TI 84 CE color calculator and this was the same price so I figured this was the best deal and he could use through high school. The teacher borrowed the calculator to learn how it worked so she could help students and basically gave it back and said she couldnt figure it out. My son still used it though and figured things out on his own but I thought that was strange. Unfortunately it got stolen in class. So keep an eye on this thing and make sure you write down the serial number. I think you can only find it in the menu system. I took pictures of the calculator when we first purchased and looking back there were no markings. If your looking to purchase this over a TI 84 Plus CE, I would have to pick the TI 84 Plus CE even though it may have fewer features. Unless the schools are supporting the Nspire, there is no point in getting one of these.

I am going back to school. From my previous college days, I was using a TI 82. This is much better. The screen is easier to see and it give answers in easy to use format instead of just giving a decimal answer. This has, however, caused me some issues on several math tests. If the majority of the problems you are working on will require a decimal answer, change the setting to approximate instead of exact. If you dont change that setting, you can still get a decimal answer by hitting [ctrl] [enter] instead of just [enter]. If you do hit [enter] then try to view the decimal answer by hitting [ctrl] [enter] be sure to check the screen to see what it calculated. Sometimes it repeats the last calculation on the formula you are using so instead of a numerator divided by a denominator it gives you the numerator divided by the denominator divided by the denominator. You just have to verify what it calculated. I am still trying to figure out the Documents feature but overall, I am extremely happy with this calculator. If there is a drawback with this unit, it is in the documentation. They could have provided more examples of how to use the features. I am using YouTube videos to cover what I still need to learn.

I like nearly everything about this calculator, except for the fact that it uses the old school USB charging port of Type B mini. Why in the world did they not finally upgrade to USB Micro or better yet, USB C?! I understand that they standardized with their other products, but at some point, they have to ditch the old. Aside from the charging port, I really like this calculator and highly recommend it. There is a bit of a learning curve to using it as it is quite a bit different from the standard TI-84 and such, but it is way more powerful. The touchpad is also a bit tricky, but usually, it cooperates with me.

This calculator is amazing! This product comes with a key for the software to be installed on your mac/windows device as well. The calculator is incredibly powerful for graphing in 2D and 3D. I would easily recommend this calculator for anyone that is trying to self-study math or is reviewing concepts. The computer algebra system (CAS) is quite powerful. I see many students relying on this to do their homework in the calculus sequence... I would not recommend students who are currently enrolled in new math classes to use this calculator as this CAS is too tempting for most students to constantly use. The ability to program in python is really cool, but in all fairness most students program from their computer but save the file to the calculator so it can be read later. I love this calculator and would recommend this to pretty much any student in his or her junior or senior year. Most math classes in these years wouldnt need this functionality, but the CAS can help validate the logic of these students.

My Son Needed one of these for school. I was balking at paying $200 plus for a calculator, Jreysjore had a used one for a little over half price. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the package- it looks brand new!

Im an adult engineering professional, not a student. Really like the CAS system that solves, simplifies, factors, expands, etc. algebraic expressions. No need to convert systems of equations to matrices. No worrying about silly mistakes in algebra. I really like that expressions can be variables, makes substitution super easy. Im coming from a TI-82 (it still works!) so I felt fairly comfortable, but still had to watch a few YouTube videos to get the gist of documents and an overview of the features. Read the manuals, watch videos, google, etc and the fun and power slowly reveals itself. I installed the software, calculator comes with a license but you have to download from TIs site. Used the software to upgrade the firmware to latest version no problem, transfer files to and from calculator, and the software emulates the calculator so you can use your computer for editing, screen sharing, etc. All very cool. Build seems solid, though not as rugged feeling as my old TI-82 which is built like a tank and survived many drops and abuse. Bought a padded case for this one, which I dont think is needed for the older models.

Cant ever go wrong with a TI-Nspire. Ive used the normal TI-Nspire CX at school during all my 4 years in high school, so Ive become fairly comfortable with operating it. But, I felt it was time for an upgrade, so I chose this, and Ive got to say, best investment ever. As an engineering college student, this calculator really helps save time. With its CAS, solving integrals and taking complicated derivatives couldnt have been any easier. The buttons (arguably), in my opinion, feel very nice to click and make a satisfying clicking sound, which I like (compared to the normal CX). It has functions from solving systems, to analyzing statistical data, and you can even program your own functions using TI-Basic. All in all, this is definitely a must-buy for any college student taking high level engineering classes. One thing to note is that this (and many other CAS calculators), are not allowed on AP math exams. Also, as Im sure youve heard. graphing calculators are not allowed in lower college math classes either (ex: Cal 1, Cal 2, or even Cal 3). It is, however, allowed on the SAT and upper-level engineering/science courses in college, at least in my experience.

This is a massive step up from my TI-84. I had been using them my whole life and my school recommended it. Im going off the college and decided to splurge on a nice, new calculator and this one was great. CAS system saves me from my awful algebra mistakes and I can easily verify my calculus. The ability to also write simply Python code is lovely as well. Highly recommend if youre in the market for your next calculator, but there is a learning curve fyi.

Faster performance, added interactive visuals and easier-to-read graphics expand this graphing calculator"s classroom-proven ability to support inquiry and discovery. Built-in, Computer Algebra System (CAS) engine enables students to perform symbolic as well as numeric calculations. Integrated mathematics templates permit you to enter expressions and see math symbols, formulas and stacked fractions just as they are printed in textbooks and on the board. Animated path plot allows you to easily visualize function, parametric and polar graphs as they"re draw in real time. Dynamic coefficient values let you explore direct connections between dynamic coefficients in equations and graphs. New app icons, supported by color-coded screen tabs, improve the user experience for easy navigation and use. Rechargeable battery reduces the risk of running out of power unexpectedly and eliminates the need for routine battery replacement.
