I dont believe this is mentioned anywhere in the description, but when you purchase the 5-pack of access points it comes as an installer pack: box of (5) access points, installation hardware, basic guide, but NO PoE INJECTORS. This may or may not be an issue for you, but its extremely important to know. We use them in some installs, not in others, so it was not a major issue for us, but if youre expecting them its a nasty surprise. As for the APs themselves, an easy 5 stars. Weve installed them in multiple locations across the country and have only had problems with a single AP. They have always performed extremely well and given no problems long-term. I highly recommend using the UniFi equipment throughout, but its definitely not necessary. You will find it much easier if you also use the Cloud Key, but installing the software on a server instead works fine as well. I will say I often prefer using the PoE injectors, but that is strictly personal preference based on locations and existing hardware and the work just fine with PoE switches.

Only access point Ive ever encountered that needs a dedicated computer to act as a controller. Useless in most situations.

I have used these units many times. The latest unifi controller I don’t like as good as the older one. Needs a better way to setup without the controller. They have great signal strength. The controller doesn’t have a way to import plant layouts like the old controller did.

These are great if you know what youre doing. My review is very stern and reflects reality. You need to understand what you are buying. This is the #1 rule. If you want intuitive plug and play you should pass on these as they require technical knowledge and a bit of understanding that comes with deploying enterprise level products and how to navigate any bumps or hurdles to implementation. Technical Support: Forums only with a lot of back and forth with the community testing things out. If you arent 100% sure you can handle this please dont purchase them and then subsequently return them because I dont want to ever receive them repackaged by Amazon after youve messed with them. Also dont leave reviews about how they dont work without fully explaining what you meant by that general statement. Most that are seasoned users will know that you had no idea what you were doing when you bought them. You have three options to configure these: 1. Use with cloud key. 2. Use with Unifi controller server software for Windows or Linux (we run controllers on AWS, GCE, and clients servers). 3. Unifi Smartphone App to configure in standalone mode. Firmware/Updates: Never use the latest firmware unless it is proven stable, most times 1 or 2 versions behind are the most stable. It will really depend on features and environment as to which firmware you will accept as good for daily use. Most firmware releases contain a lot of bugs and it is usually up to the community in the forums to rally Ubiquiti to get them fixed. IMPORTANT NOTE: Multipacks DO NOT come with PoE injectors. You must purchase PoE injectors separately or use a PoE enabled switch.

with over 400 of these installed, I never had a single failure. The new Software is very nice too. Just make sure you have a POE Switch or some power injectors.

We have about 20 of these. The units themselves arent bad, but the software that runs them might as well be beta. I knew we were in trouble when I saw it runs off of mongo. Weve been down for weeks, unable to monitor or access any of our units from the controller software. Tech support responds back every week or so with something that doesnt help.

Warning - these are old stock - the new AC-LRs support 802.11af, but not these. Also, unlike what some reviewers seem to say, these dont get PoE from Ubiquiti PoE switches. These require 12/24 volt passive PoE (who uses that anyway?), and the ubiquiti switches are strictly 802.11af. And I missed the 30 day return winndow, so now it looks like I need to buy injectors and do some janky wiring.
