I gave this item a bad review when I first got it (for static and transmission interruptions). Since then I found that this item is fine, it was the recommended external speaker that was the problem ( in a review the speaker was recommended and was sold as a package deal when I bought the Scanner). Once I removed the speaker (as I was going to return/replace the scanner) a broadcast came over PERFECTLY clear and uninterrupted. AND the built in speaker for the scanner was fine.......no external speaker needed. Just so you know, when an external speaker is attached, it by-passes the internal speaker completely. When I was purchasing and reading review it was suggested that the scanner NEEDED an external speaker........NOT TRUE!!!! The scanner works beautifully without the external speaker and I am now very pleased with this scanner. Sometimes reading reviews hurt you, I hope this one helps you. This is a really good scanner for what I needed and I am very happy with it now that I removed the external speaker.

This scanner can tune almost any of the legal bands above 10 meters including CB! Does not scan HF/IF/LF ham bands due to its portability. Pulls even more signals if you add a mag mount VHF/UHF outside antenna. Only drawback: it does not have a keypad to direct-enter frequencies, but I guess thats why its a scanner. Top of its class!

I plan on doing a longer review on this product very soon but for now these are my thoughts after 3 days of use as a desktop unit. 1- Programming: I almost did not buy this item after reading the reviews about programming it. The thing was though that the BC355N fit my needs and area to perfection so I went ahead and bought it knowing that as an Amazon Prime member it could be returned without much hassle. My worries went unfounded as it was a breeze to program after watching the Uniden You Tube Channel video on how to do so, it is less than 2 minutes long. After about 10 minutes I had all my local channels programmed in and was listening to them. 2- Antenna: I also bought an aftermarket antenna for $10 to see if it was all it was described as in the reviews for it since I do live pretty far out in the country. Hands down it out performed the stock antenna this unit comes with but that is not a bad review on what it comes with as it worked as well as the other as far as reception but it did not have the adjustments that the aftermarket one has and you will need that with the angle that the BC355N sits on your desk at. 3- Overall: Very happy with the quality / feel of the unit, it looks good sitting on my desk in my office and matches all the other electronics that surround it as I do both FM and Internet Radio. Shipping was fast with Prime 2 Day and it was packaged very well.

I bought this for my local fire department and ems communications to listen to in my vehicle and when I get home. The sound quality is amazing and it is really easy to set up with the right support from YouTube videos!

This receiver was purchased to replace a mid-80s BearCat 20/20 scanner that had provided outstanding service for nearly 35 years. Unfortunately, the BC355N does not measure up to the high standard set by its much older sibling. The audio is weak and the optional BC23A amplified speaker is required if you want to hear an intelligible broadcast from across the hangar (40 feet). On the plus side, reception with an external VHF antenna is very good.

I needed a couple of these for receiving emergency broadcasts for a local radio station that I engineer for. Im knocking them down to 4-stars only because they arent the most intuitive units to program. Nevertheless, they are both doing their job well and Im very happy with the result. If I could do 4 1/2 stars here thats what theyd get. Whats really nice is that they include a BNC connector for the antenna (great if you need to feed it with an external antenna) and an audio line output connector, which I also needed in order to feed the audio from these into our EAS server. All told I would definitely buy these again if I need more.

when I turned this scanner on there was no sound, I connected an external speaker and it began to work.. I removed the bottom of the the unit and repaired the broken wire . Nice scanner after all that..

I wanted a scanner for a long time. I use to pull up radio reference and listen to the stream of my local police traffic but the quality was bad and unreliable. This scanner appealed to be because I wanted one like this style, not the portable radio looking ones, as well as the feature of being able to use it in the home and car. It took me a little while to figure out how to use it even with the instructions but after 10-20 minutes I had my local sheriffs dept. tuned in. I was so happy, the quality was 100x better than the internet stream, it sounded like they were right next to me compared to what the stream sounded like. I was impressed by the amount of accessories that were included with the scanner. Most companies would require you to purchase all the stuff that was included with this. There was a car antenna, a house antenna, AC adapter, DC adapter, and a hard wire kit for the car. I purchased a different antenna for the top of the car as well as a speaker. The only wish I have is that it went a little louder, when your in the car and driving at 60-75 MPH its hard to hear with the road noise. If you have it you can plus your AUX in for your car and have it come across your speakers but itll only come out of one side. I dont know anything about scanners but Im 100% happy with my purchase. Its something Ive wanted for a long time and it does exactly what I wanted. Dont be discouraged if you have trouble figuring it out at first. The instructions dont cover everything so you sort of have to teach yourself some things.

I was initially dissappointed with the reception using the included metal antenna. Connecting an outdoor dualband magmount antenna to my metal roof allowed the radio to receive aircraft as they fly by. The receiver works best with a outdoor antenna.
