I have been buying Western Digital drives for decades now and have had excellent drive life and reliability. This 4 TB Black model drive has started out like others I have had in the past. I got this drive to replace a WD Blue 1 TB drive that is now too small for my needs, but is still performing well. Low noise level and excellent access speeds have continued with the 4TB WD Black model. If I have any issues, Ill update this review.

Ive been using WD hds since the early 90s and theyve been consistently reliable for me, more so than their peers, which I why I tend to gravitate towards them when buying hds. To be honest its been years since Ive bought one since my pc is all SSD or at least it was until I installed this drive. Previously my fastest hd was a wd velociraptor but this one is very fast for a mechanical drive. Id hoped that the Seagate hamr drives would be available to the public by now but alas enterprise customers only. I needed large capacity storage and a 4tb ssd is $600 so this was a happy medium that I could live with. I have included my crystaldiskinfo drive test so you can see my throughput. My system is an AMD X570 with a R9 3900X that was using a crucial mx500 2tb sata ssd for storage but its just not enough room for my 4k videos. I dont hear much drive noise when its active but then again my Cooler Master HAF932 case is loaded with fans and I tend to hear my gpu and aio fans above everything else so they could be drowning it out. Bottom line is that if you need a new hd this one would not disappoint you for a mechanical drive. I keep my games on my ssds so I cannot comment on things like loading times from them but you see the drive test so you know what Im getting out of it.

Ordered this drive to expand the storage of my computer. It wasnt prime shipping, but it arrived much faster than estimated (delivered in 2 days!). The shipping packaging was very good, they used proper hard drive packaging. The drive was in a special holder and inside a separate box as well. It also came with an SATA cable, which was very nice. Install was just plugging in the power and data and running disk management. Everything running great.

This is for the 8TB WD Black hard disk. I have used Seagate, Hitachi, and Western Digital hard disks. They all last a long time for me. I have no problem with any of these brands. One thing good about WD hard disks is that you can tell the hard disk is about to fail. WD hard disks will make noises, and start to run slow. So, you know it is time to replace it. On the other hand, Seagate will just fail in an instant. No noise no nothing. However, if Hitachi is still in business, my first choice is a Hitachi. I have a bunch of Green and Blue. This is my 2rd WD Black. I have a 4TB for 6 years and it is still working without any problem. The 4TB is loud. This 8TB is even louder. If you are in a quiet office, do not get the WD Black. Get a Seagate instead. I have no problem cloning my 4TB to the 8TB with the Acronis WD Edition software. The Amazon package is ok. The hard disk is in the original thick OEM cardboard box with the 2 black plastic packing materials. I tried to catch the Amazon driver to let him hand over the box. But I was too late. He already threw the box on the ground. I have the hard disk for a month now. Looks like it survived the Amazon driver. Running Crystal Disk Mark 6, the 8TB is faster than the 6-year-old 4TB. 223/214 vs 138/131. I have some Crystal Disk Mark screenshots with my Samsung 850 EVO for comparison. Hope this help.

This is an awesome drive make no mistake. These Western Digital BLACK Drives wear like iron in my experience. That said video games are getting bigger and bigger with each new title. There was a time not too long ago that a @TB could hold an absolute plethora of games but that day has passed. The mechanical drive is where you store your PC games most economically so you want space to do so. Swapping games in and out from remote sources is a time consuming laborious chore no one loves. Im sorry I brought this drive NOT because it is bad in any way. I am upset having wasted money on this drive because, I stupidly thought 2 TBs would be enough to store all my games. I WAS WRONG! Turns out I needed 4 TBs just to store my current games. I ended up buying a 6 TB drive so Id have room to add games. Same thing if you are a content creator on any social media platform. Creating 4K or 8K media content is a space and processor intensive undertaking. A 2 TB drive as your storage solution wont cut it for long. The Western Digital BLACK drives are dependable work horses in general its just this 2 TB version is an anemic little Philly that might have overstayed its welcome. 2 TBs of storage made for a good drive in its time but it really cant handle the storage needs of systems today. I took a star off for it being essentially obsolete as a valid storage solution but other than that The WD BLACK is a fine storage drive solution in terms of pure functionality!

not healthy sounds. its been almost 6 months, never really used it until recently since I have like 10TB worth of storage (as well as this 6TB HDD). Now that I am starting to put things on it, it is making a lot of clicking noises and when I scroll through the pictures I have stored on it and when I scroll they will no load until I hear it wind up and start spinning, then it will load them. While scrolling through the pictures every few lines it loads while going down the list, I can hear it going click, click, click, clickclickclick, click. noises that shouldnt be heard. and for a WD Black HDD the quality should be way above my 4TB WD Blue HDD, which doesnt make any of the sounds this one is (as it should). and since I waited to use it until it was actually needed Im well past my return window and 1 month past the click here for support option. If you happen to buy this test it as soon as you get it by uploading deleting and accessing large # of files on it, to test the waters and see how it reacts and sounds. Im not saying dont buy this, Im say dont do what I did and wait until you actually need it before using it and realizing its not as it should be 100%.

The delivery here in the Phillippines takes a long time, especially into Mindanao which is furthest point from Manila. I let the drive sit idle for 24 hours in my air-conditioned room just to make sure no temperature or humidity issues impacted installation or stability. I ran multiple tests and surface scans to ensure the functionality of the drive was 100% functional. I have recently had difficulties with another drive vedor product and happy to get back to having a WD Black spinning in the computer. I added after market cooling fan because temps were running above 41 degrees idle. It is advertised as Gaming drive because it runs at 7200 rpm, but its not really going to be really gaming with 250mb read/write speeds.
