The ylmrav 256GB Smartphone and PC OTG SSD USB Drive comes with both USB-C and USB-A interfaces. The unit has a metallic constructions, which makes it sturdy and also helps with heat dissipation. This ylmrav 256GB SSD USB Drive works with several platforms. I tested it on several devices with Android, MacOS, Chromium and Windows OS. Since it has dual interfaces, I did not have issues switching from devices to devices without the need of an adapter. The ylmrav 256GB SSD USB Drive reached the advertised speed of 550 MB/s read speed and 501 MB/S write speed on a synthetic benchmark. On Windows it reached 513 MB/s write speed and 554 MB/s read speed over USB 3.2. Even when it reached 98% capacity, it was still reaching 400 MB/s write speeds. The ylmrav 256GB SSD USB Drive performed very well when connected to fast interfaces. On a Macbook Pro it reached 486 MB/s read speed and 456 MB/s write speed. On Android devices it reached a max read speed of 440 MB/s and just only 215 MB/s write speed...because it was an USB 3.0 interface. The ylmrav 256GB SSD USB Drive is a fast USB even when almost full. It is a nice USB drive to have when you need to move files fast.

I still need to run around with removable media, and came across this Ylmrav 256Gb Smartphone and PC OTG USB Flash Drive, and thought I’d give this a try. It comes in a nice presentation case with very nice padding. It has a nice brushed finish so there’s no issue with fingerprints. It has caps to protect both ends... the USB-A connector, and the USB-C connector. The caps are awesome! For the USB-A end cap it is MAGNETIC. Which means it won’t come loose until you pull on it. The USB-C end swivels out of the way and is also magnetic. I have no concerns that I’ll lose these end caps. I have some specialized utilities, and I did a 13 hr reliability test, where different size data chunks are written to the entire disk in three iterations. No issues whatsoever. On a standard USB 3.0 connection, data transfer rates averaged 352 MB.sec. Sadly, I was not able to test transfer speeds under USB 3.2 protocols. In broad testing, USB 3.0 transfer rates were good. 1.55 GB in 10.6 sec 6.34 GB in 59.2 sec I have no doubt that USB 3.2 rates would be consistently faster. This flash drive just FEELS great too. It’s chunky and solid, and is built like a tank. This is a utility drive I’ll use over and over!

There are two sides to the drive. The smaller connection has a cool hinge design that allows the top to be removed and stay out of the way without losing it. The regular USB end just has a removable cap, which is also called a losable cap. Why in the world would the same hinged cap not be used on both ends? Thats frustrating to me because I will 100% lose this little cap. I know, its in the product description, but I just assumed there would be some sort of cap retention like a small tether or something. For that reason alone, I am hesitant to use this drive. But it works great as far as portable drives go.

Thumb drives are still getting larger & larger every day, but this 256gb size is a really great size now in my opinion for PCs & Macs or phones with USB-C. Big enough to hold quite a few HD 1080p & even 4k movies & shows, or just tons of various files but not SO large that it breaks the bank! This drive is neat. VERY well made & its USB-C OR USB 3.0 whichever you need or prefer. Transfer speeds were lightning fast & steady the whole way for very large files through the USB-C port and still good & stable through USB 3.0 but the speed did drop off a good bit through USB 3 on large transfers. No drop off at all through USB-C. USB-C speeds were nearly 400 MB/s from my internal SSD to this drive. No noticeable heating up of this drive either. One of the better flash drives Ive had in some time.

I ordered this USB drive because I occasionally have to swap large video files with clients via USB drive. One client has a newer PC but it has only USB-A type ports. I wanted a USB-C drive that I could easily use on my new M1 MacBook Pro that would also work on my clients USB-A ports on his PC. This USB drive fit the bill as it has both USB-A and USB-C connections. When I opened the box I was very pleased to find that the USB drive has no logo on it to mar the plain silver color zinc alloy metal. It looks and feels like a quality product. I plugged it in the USB-C port of my 2021 M1 MacBook Pro and opened Apples Disk Utility app to see what file system it was formatted with. I was glad to find that it was formatted with the exFAT file system. This is the one I prefer because it works with both Macs and PCs and allows file sizes over 4GB. You could always format to a different file system, but this is the one I needed and would be most useful for the largest number of people. Most shouldnt even have to think about this. I next did a speed test using the Disk Utility app. Speeds were decent, showing almost 300MB/s read speed and about 400MB/s write speed. However, the speed falls significantly short of the 500MB/s speeds claimed in the product listing. Its In the multiple tests I ran, it was 20%-40% slower than claimed. Using BlackMagic disk speed test I got results about 10% faster than Apple Disk Utility test. This speed test is optimized for larger file sizes used in video editing. I got average readings of about 330MB/s read speed and 440MB/s write speed using this disk test. This is still not exactly the 500MB/s claimed but its a bit faster than the other speed test. The speeds are definitely due to the USB drive itself as Im using it on a new Mac with 40GB/s thunderbolt 4 ports which are capable of speeds almost 100x faster than the top speeds I got with this drive. For many uses this isnt much of an issue. These are still fast speeds compared to USB 2.0, but if your work requires transferring huge video files like mine does, youll probably want to know that it may take you up to 20% to 40% longer than youd hoped.

I wanted to get this so I could easily connect my phone, pc, or mac to the thumb drive without worrying about needing a adapter. This has a ton of memory for me to store pictures, files, and videos on. It is also nice because I am able to connect my phone to this and transfer photos off of my phone to free up space. It is also a nice device to store videos so I can watch videos from this thumb drive rather than storing it on my phone. It will also work for thunderport on mac but you may need to format the drive in order to transfer to the mac. This is NOT a thunderport device so it will not utilize the full thunderport speed. If you are using it with your mac, it will transfer pretty quick to and from the device. This thumb drive is pretty decently built although the metal is a bit easy to scratch. There is no slot for key ring or lanyard which is a bit of a bummer. You are able to open the cover to use the type c port. The cap is connected to the thumb drive so it is hard to lose. The cap is pretty solid so it will not just pop off on its own. I do wish the USB port cover was the same. This is a pretty thick thumb drive so it may take up more than one slot. The price as well is pretty reasonable for a thumb drive of this size. The cap is nice because now there will not be any exposed plugs. The case is easy to get scratched up though. Overall this a good flash drive to have if you happen to need to empty your phone or even transferring data between devices via type c. Please note this is not a thunderbolt plug but it will work on a thunderbolt port. It has plenty of space so it can store a good amount of pictures. I do wish it had some kind of key ring slot as you can lose this drive.

This just what I needed to transfer my pictures and documents from my iPad to my HP computer. I had to use a large adapter to transfer everything and it was frustrating going back and forth. This makes it much easier because it has two plugs that fit each device and it is small. The only thing about this is the drive in the iPad is buried within the system so I had to search for the drive. However once I found it, everything transferred beautifully. But that has more to do with the apple than the product itself.

The first thing I noticed when I took this drive out of its nice box, was that it was heavy! This is made out of metal; youre not going to break this on accident. Plugging it in, I saw that the drive already had Android system folders (empty folders) set up on the drive--this would make it easy for transferring/backing up files to the right places with the right names. As described, you can plug it into either a USB-A or C connection. Unfortunately, my phone case interfered with the USB-c connection and I had to remove it--but my case is quite thick. My disk properties showed 256G as expected. Im not caught up with the actual speeds (other reviews have commented on this) but it seemed to transfer quickly to and from the drive--it works for me. I would consider it a little pricey if it were just USB-c or USB-a, but its both--and its metal construction makes it a good deal.

The drive is small, easily pocketable and fits in the small pocket of jeans. The product photos shows text printed on the drive but the drive I received has none, its a nice clean silver finish thumb drive. There is no hole for attaching a lanyard. The cap for the USB Type A port attaches to the drive magnetically. The drive casing and cap is metal so should be fairly durable. The metal also helps to dissipate heat when the drive is in use, it gets hot but not burning. When plugged into a Windows 10 PC, the drive was auto detected and already formatted. The drive is able to reach the advertised speed when used with a Type C port. The Type A port was slower but not by too much.
