These scratch boxes are my cat’s favorite! I like that they last awhile because you can flip each panel before using a new one. I recommend highly.

Cats can (and WILL!) use ANYTHING to clean and sharpen their nails -- Furniture, wooden doorframes, carpets, ANYTHING! But for some reason they can, and do, use cardboard, whether it is a box full of stuff sitting in a corner, or a mat like this one laid out on the floor for their specific use. Weve had cat scratcher pads for almost as long as weve had cats, and I STILL dont know for sure what makes a good one, or a bad one. These scratch pads are a bit shorter (see picture) than the usual size weve gotten (I kind of think of that as a bad point), but they are definitely more tightly weaved than the ones in current use (and I tend to think that will prove to be a very, very good point for them). I made a heavy box frame to put the cat scratchers into to help hold them down (make them a bit less mobile and not skid around on the linoleum floor), but it is longer than these scratch pads by about 2 inches. These pads are also a bit thinner (1-inch versus 1.5-inches) so they do not fill the home-made box as well. I believe the thinner size will not affect anything, as I have cut some old ones apart and they generally tear up between 1/4-inch and 1/2-inch of the thickness from each side, so we should still be able to flip these over and get double-sided use out of them. Overall, since cats can use solid objects like wood as scratching posts, I think the most important attribute of scratching pads is the density of the weave, and these have the other guy beat hands down in that category (see picture). If I had gotten these years ago, and built my box for this length, I would probably give 5 stars, but due to the empty spot caused by the shortness of these pads versus the other guy, I feel I have to hold back one star. (Is there any way to get Cat Scratch Pads standardized so everybody makes the same size?!?)

These cardboard panels are double-sided essentially, so we get 2 uses out of each one. The value is the best Ive found yet since my cats prefer the cardboard scratchers. We took the first few layers out so the cardboard shreds would be more likely to stay in the box.

It seemed to me that the box the scratching pad lies in would be too small to accommodate my medium sized, but plump Musidora. But she absolutely loves it! Now she spends much of her time alternately resting in it or scratching it to shreds. I think there may be two styles of cat scratching: vertical and horizontal. The cats I have lived with before Musidora have either enjoyed or been indifferent to traditional scratching posts. Musidora seems to swing both ways: she can really party with her scratching post, but I think her real passion lies with horizontal scratching. She has always liked to scratch our carpet, and now she delights in her new scratch pad and box, cramped as the box may seem to a biped. But only a cat can kno what delights it.

When I ordered these, this listing was for three inserts and no box. Thats what Im (and several others) are reviewing. I measured the width on these and they matched my standard-sized scratchers, so I got these as replacements. What I didnt check was the length — they are about an inch too short. Ill have to wedge them to use them, but my cats probably wont care. They love cardboard scratchers, so these will make the run through the claw-mill and scatter their ashes throughout the house, and my cats will love it, and I will tolerate it. :)

My cats had another scratching pad that was a bit better quality. The cardboard was a little denser. However, it cost about twice the price of one of these pads. So, for the price, Im pretty happy with this pack. Now that I have five of them, I can spread a few about the house. Also, the images shown depict the item exactly. You shouldnt be disappointed when you receive it. Too often the product doesnt seem to match the photos provided but thats not the case with this item.

These arrived in great condition without out any damage or flaws. My cat won’t use the fancier scratching posts or carpets that don’t make a mess. He will only scratch on the these corrugated cardboard pieces. They keep him from bothering anything else with his sharp claws.
