ASUS DRW-24F1ST - DVD SATA SUPERMULTI Burner - SERIAL ATA - BLACK - OEM Bulk Drive

When I originally built my system in August of 2013 I debated on putting a second drive in my system, I had a Pioneer bluray burner but knew that the majority of my projects would be burning CD and DVDs. I bought one of these and without trying to exaggerate probably burned close to 1,000 discs in the last year and a half (I work on computers for a living and do VHS to DVD transfers. Finally this thing gave out, it lasted through TONS of burns and is a fast drive. For the price, this thing was great and if this thing lasts another year and a half with how often I am punishing it I will gladly purchase another one when this one dies on me.

This product works as required and is very quiet. It was easy to install with no issues. Great 2nd day delivery as well! Thank you Amazon!

Using ASUS the DVD writer for many years, never having any problem.

Easy plug and play install. ASUS provided a CD with Cyberlink Power to Go (Burn CD/DVD/Blu-ray, Erase Disc/Rip Audio/Virtual Drive), E-Green (optimize power usage), and Firmware update. You will have to purchase SATA power and Data cables. Make sure you plug the data cable into an upper tier Motherboard SATA connector. Will update review when features are used and firmware updated.

GREAT DRIVE FOR THE MONEY

Whyyyyy dont they ever package the cables you need WITH these drives? I totally forgot to check if theyre included, and was a bit disappointed when the drive came. Instead of ADDING another burner, I ended up replacing my old one with this. When I get around to eventually ordering more things on Amazon, Ill try to remember to get cables. Theyre too small and cheap to warrant their own shipment/order. SOME drives I see on here do include the $2 cables. Just not this one. The drive itself works good, is quiet etc. I can say it does NOT let DVDShrink run as well as a few other LEGAL copy software. It seems to block this function. I found a way to circumvent this issue, but...again, I shouldnt HAVE to. Its not Asuss job to police what software I run. I own my movie, I can make a back-up. I cant even back up my home movies with this drive. So once I get those pesky addl cables, Ill have two DVD burners, one that allows access to all software. Ive already left a separate review for shipping, but Ill mention it again: this item comes packaged only in a plastic bag that is not sealed. It was sent in my case, with aquarium filters, that leaked charcoal particles all over the inside of shipping box. I found that very unacceptable on Amazons part. Combined shipping is great, but not when you damage items to save money.

Works flawlessly and does not use much power. I love the drive however I would like them to quit putting all the info on the front so I could maintain a all black computer.
