ASUS DRW-24F1ST - DVD SATA SUPERMULTI Burner - SERIAL ATA - BLACK - OEM Bulk Drive

Like the wristwatch, disc drives are more of a fashion statement than a practical tool in 2017, but they do still have their uses. I trust Asus, so I was fairly confident in buying this. As expected, It worked well enough to install an OS and burn the occasional CD to iTunes, but thats about all that disc drives are good for nowadays... Personally, Id rather have one and not need it than need it and not have one, and for the price, it really was a no-brainer for me... Plus I had one 5 1/4 front bay that was looking a bit lonely... If youre looking for a cheap drive thatll get the job done, then youre not going to find one better for less.

I bought this to replace an older DVD drive that died. It was cheap, and so far seems to be working good. Hopefully it lasts as long or longer than the 10-year-old drive its replaced!

I wish the drive came with some accessories to install it. I was disappointed. This doesnt fit the Deepcool Kendomen case because the fans are in the way for the DVD drive to fit. I was saddened. So, I donated this to my school.

Great brand, great price. The only con I have for this is that its fairly loud. Im not sure if I received a defective optical drive because it works fine and Ive only had my custom build pc running for two days now, but so far it works okay.

I have bought 4 of these and none have any issues in all my years of building PCs. I would say that the software that comes with it is a bit dated, so may need to check for updates.

No screws, no cables, came bouncing around in the box wrapped in bubble wrap. For those who dont want such bare-bones, I recommend Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE-KIT. Otherwise fine, just a little weird.

An easy swap using hardware from the old drive - it slid into place and I plugged it in. Win 10 recognized it and worked immediately.

Easy plug and play install. ASUS provided a CD with Cyberlink Power to Go (Burn CD/DVD/Blu-ray, Erase Disc/Rip Audio/Virtual Drive), E-Green (optimize power usage), and Firmware update. You will have to purchase SATA power and Data cables. Make sure you plug the data cable into an upper tier Motherboard SATA connector. Will update review when features are used and firmware updated.

An old standard. Have used whatever the current rev is of this line for decades, I have to be close to 100 installs on this guy. Works exactly as expected, super rare for them to make a coaster. Tried and true tech.
