Long-Term Product Reviews by Hugh&Co.
> 24 hourRecently upgraded from my ASUS ACX3200 and this router is one of the best routers out there. Simply put, the two best things about this is the speeds and interface. Speeds: Wi-Fi speed literally quadrupled. Interface: Setting up the router as well as using the ASUS app made this a seamless experience from beginning to end. Highly recommended as my original ASUS has been going strong since 2016. I expect this to do the same.

> 24 hourBought a pair, excellent wifi coverage. Installed using wired backhaul, only issue is that I didnt know you cant use 2.5gb ports as dedicated backhaul, hopefully asus will make this available later.

> 24 hourI bought 3 as my home has too many devices now and velop could not handle them efficiently I used to have the velop with wireles backhaul but that proved inefficient as the nodes would ramdomly change connections. I then hardwired my home with Cat6 and things got much better but now I have too many devices. So I decided to buy new routers. The router is 3x 3 Mimo in 2.4 and 4x4 Mimo in 5 ghz. I have the 3 routers hardwired for backhaul so I did not need a tri-band router this time, but something that could handle the speed and the connections. I set them up via AiMesh, but note that if anything changes you have the option to set the nodes as access points. So far the AiMesh is very stable I have 500 mbps internet and I get that hardwired and between 300-400 at any point on wifi. Of course if we stream on 2 TVs and download stuff on a few devices the speeed may vary but the routers are able to handle the traffic really well. 3 days in and no disconnections or issues. Will update if anything changes

> 24 hourThe router loses its internet (WAN) connection for all clients (WiFi and Wired) every 7 to 10 days for no apparent reason. The router shows a red LED for Internet/WAN when this happens, but the cable modems diagnostic LEDs indicate the modem is connected to the internet when the router loses the connection. Tried some of the recommended troubleshooting settings for the routers WAN connection, but the router appears to need a reboot after every so many days. I have previously owned a couple 802.11ac versions of another brand of WiFi router for the past decade, but I fell for all the hype online magazine articles made for this 802.11ax router while looking for a more robust upgrade for working from home and with so many other devices in the home connected to the router these days . Buying this router was a very expensive mistake!

> 24 hourI like the ASUS router software and features. Really like the vertical form factor as it takes up little desk space. Replaces or augments the Asus RT-AC86U router which I am now using as a AI Mesh client. Like the faster clocked cpu which handles the large amount of traffic I push up and down across the internet.

> 24 hourIve had the RT-AX86U for a month now. Its a great router when it works. Pros.... Excellent wifi signal range, with caveats Great throughput Durable construction Cons... Throughput to the WAN drops daily Sometimes takes a while to communicate with ISP for DHCP Wifi stops communication with WAN In the beginning, this router had everything I was looking for. Excellent wifi range and throughput, bonded LAN ports worked well with my NAS, and my wired connections through my gigabit switch had no issues. I then began to notice some quirks. The most problematic issue was that throughout began to drop significantly on a daily basis. My download speeds would drop from 200+ Mbps to about 5 to 7 Mbps. A reboot of the router would correct the problem. The second minor issue, which was probably a firmware bug, is that when using bonded WAN connections into the router, the status display would report the WAN speed as being 100 Mbps, although the router connection to the WAN, where the IP address is shown, reported a 2Gbps speed. I could not discern any loss of speed there other than the aforementioned speed drop issue. The third issue, after almost a month, is that the wifi appears to have lost its internal connection to the internet. None of my wifi devices could receive data from the internet. My cell phones would connect to the router or report the SSID had an excellent signal, but report no internet or limited access. The router device list did not show any wireless devices. I performed a factory reset. It then took a very long time for the router to obtain an IP address from the ISP. I tried two different DOCSIS 3.0 cable modems, with no improvement noted. I finally removed the RT-AX86U router and reinstalled my old RT-AC68U. All of the issues immediately disappeared. Since it has now been 32 days since I received the router, I dont think I can return it to Amazon. I suppose Ill have to work with Asus on these issues, which is disappointing, considering how much the router cost me.

> 24 hourI was hoping for better WiFi signal strength! No better than my old Asus AC-1900. Disappointed. More stable and as fast as the old router. Not used for gaming.
