I still have all my old consoles and my biggest disappointment is the lack of options to hook them up to the TV. Some of the newer TVs dont even really have the basic YRW hookups and that makes it nearly impossible to properly hook up vintage Nintendo systems. This adaptor gives a SUPER easy solution. All you have to do is hook the adaptor up to the system and then just hook up the HDMI cable. Obviously this doesnt improve the resolution but it is worth it just to have a super quick and easy way to use your SNES/N64/GameCube on a newer TV.

I previously had tried a non-HMDI adaptor for the GameCube and it simply didnt provide what I wanted (mostly clarity). This product provides good resolution (considering original product design) on a 50 inch television. It is extremely simple to set up four connections: HDMI to TV, HDMI to adaptor, connection to GameCube, and power to the adaptor). There are three minor problems that dont diminish my experience or enjoyment. First, the adaptor gets warm (not hot) if you leaved it plugged in all the time. So, Ive started to unplug it after every use. Second, the sound wasnt coming on after I powered off the GameCube and TV, but I started to disconnect the HDMI and it reset. But even better was that by unplugging power to the adaptor between uses, I always had sound at startup. Third, the widescreen (there are two options wide and standard screen) had edges on the side that didnt appear. This is a minor problem for games that use the very edge of the display. Given that I can use the GameCube effectively on my TV with an HDMI connection, its really a non-issue (and doesnt deserve a reduction in stars). This is a buy-with-confidence based on about a three week use of the product.

Super easy to set up, just plug in. And being able to change aspect ratio was very nice.

It works just fine, but I dont like that you need a power cord for it.

Weve kept all our Nintendos. I guess we have all of the old cartridge based ones. Theres just something intangible about playing the real Super Mario Brothers on an old NES, or Ocarina of Time on an N64. The N64 in particular, with its oddball controller, is a great experience for my family. They still dont really have anything like 4 player Goldeneye. The real problem is that I dont have a TV with the older connections, RCA, composite, S-Video. I actually have been using a really old adapter for coaxial cable but this isnt 1985. With this adapter I can just use HDMI on any monitor or TV or projector in the house. Finally, I can enjoy crisp, reliable, hassle free video from my N64 or Super Nintendo. After playing for many hours at a time, this unit doesnt get too warm, doesnt have any flickering or other problems, and just seems to work. I have no reason not to expect it to work for years. Setup is easy. You do need to plug the USB charger in (which is basically a phone charger), and the Nintendos video cable, and the HDMI cable to your TV. Thats it. It just works from there. Manage your expectations. If youre playing SNES or N64 games emulated in native high resolution, you will be surprised that your old console doesnt actually make modern video resolutions. You might need to play with contrast and brightness, maybe even fit the picture to your TV Screen. I havent had any problems, but the quality of the picture is more or less the same as it was when I was a kid. I love it, but if you were hoping for a remastered version, perhaps you can buy that from Nintendo for their newer consoles. For the money its a reasonable value.

The guys that make these things are life savers. Its so great being able to play those old consoles on the newer TVs. Theres always plenty of HDMI ports, but most of the time youre lucky if you can find a single component input. The sharpness coming out of this is great. Theres no static, and no blending. Everything looks sharp. It does require power through a USB port. I have it plugged into my USB port in my TV. Overall a great product. Highly recommended.
