We really like our booster seat, but it is a bit big to travel with. In fact, every time we went to the airport, they made us try and stuff it through the x-ray machine. We would tell the TSA person that the last time or last two times, it got stuck, but they were persistent. And of course, it got stuck again. We decided that we needed an alternative for travel. After research, there are two decent options: the Trunki/Boostapak, which also functions as a backpack and is made of hard plastic, and the inflatable BubbleBum. Both are considered safe and include an adjustable belt positioning strap. The BubbleBum, however, is more practical for long car rides compared to the Trunki since the BubbleBum is naturally more comfortable (inflatable cushion vs. hard plastic). So, if you plan to fly and then travel in a car for a bit, this is your only option. Which is fine because this product is awesome. In fact, we purchased another one for the other car just because it is so convenient. If your child has a play date but needs to bring a car seat, or if you find that you have to suddenly transport one of your childs friends in your car, you are ready. If you need a third booster in between two larger car seats, this one will work. It is easy to use, my child--who can sometimes struggle with securing a seat belt--has no difficulties putting this one on. Additionally, it literally takes about 15 seconds to take it out of the bag, inflate it, and secure the positioning strap on the seat belt. If there is one con, it is just that you will have to check to make sure your child put the safety belt through BOTH red loops (pictured) on each side. Since I generally install the seat first, securing the positioning strap on the safety belt, I slip the safety belt into the red loop so that my child will just have to worry about positioning the strap and then buckling in on the other side, and slipping the safety belt into the other red loop. Thanks to all the other reviewers for writing such detailed reviews as it convinced me to purchase the first one. Hopefully, you likewise found this review helpful.

I am giving this five stars because it does what I think it is designed to do: serves as a stopgap measure when no other option is available. This is no way is adequate for anything other than short rides when you cannnot carry a proper booster seat. We used it for four cab rides - one to hotel from airport, one back to airport from hotel and two short urban cab rides while in city we were visiting. It does not boost very high, slides easily and can position seatbelt appropriately with some care and attention while child focuses on not moving around much. Both the seat, and the child on the seat, and the belt positioner move around easily and children need to focus to make sure everything is in the right place. If you cannot carry a regular booster seat with you this is a good tool to make sure that rides are safer. But you should never consider this a replacement for a booster seat for regular travel that extends beyond short trips. Our son is eight and about 58 pounds and still requires a belt positioner to have everything at the correct height. I included picture from three cab rides. The belt positioner should be lower in third picture. It was the first time I used it and did not have height correct. Good for travel conundrums or very short rides where regular seat is difficult or impossible to manage. Requires help by adult installing seat and positioning things correctly but also cooperative child who will sit still.

Let me start off by saying I have a love/hate relationship with car seats. I have 5 children, the oldest one is 7, so collectively, I probably have been through 30 car seats in less than a decade. My daughter has been ready to graduate to a booster seat for 2+ years now, but unfortunately, due to her parents procreation habits, shes been relegated to life in a 5-point harness for lack of space. It baffles me that mini-van manufacturers dont consider the fact that you may have kids in car seats. Sure its great Herb and Ethel sport their Chrysler Town & Country with their teacup poodle Miffy, but we use the heck out of our minivan. So, when the twins showed up, the three bigs got kicked to the back of the bus and we panicked trying to cram three full seats in the back row. Thanks to Radian (and $1000), we didnt have to buy a conversion van. So, after squeezing every moment out of the baby seat, I had to find a narrow booster. Our standard graco booster had birthing hips like my wife, and just didnt squeeze in the back. Enter, Bubble Bum. The name and concept are ridiculous, but, by golly, the thing actually works perfect. I was EXTREMELY skeptical about a blow up seat. Sure we want our children to live in a bubble, but to actually sit on one? Low and behold, It fits her narrow booty perfectly and shes now all proud sporting a booster seat. Granted, there are no frills to this thing. No cup holder, no secret pockets, no fun stuff, just base model solidness. Weve had it probably a month and its still inflated, and working great. Thankfully we havent done any crash testing in it, so I cant validate its safety. Hopefully, Ill never have to update my comment about the crash sturdiness. Paranoia, I looked online and sites claimed it was safety checked and legit. Now that school is starting back up, kid #1 is begging to be promoted in dads car as well to a booster. So, buying a second Bubble Bum. Only negative thing I would say is my daughter complains the seat is itchy around the logo. It is raised, and when she wears skirts or daisy dukes, she complained of scratching. So, we improvised and she put a wash cloth on the seat. Im glad I didnt pay extra for kittens or something pretty on the seat only to have a dirty rag covering it. Otherwise, works great. If youre tight on space, its definitely the seat for you. I have one in our Odyssey and soon one in an Avalon (adjacent to two Radians).

It was a gift to a mom and her child and they used it for travel and were both very happy with it.

Really great for traveling! Just roll up in a small bag and put it with your carry on on the plane. It literally inflates / deflates within seconds of blowing it in or out. Super convenient In the rental car on vacation. My 6-year old loved it and was comfortable sitting there. We used it for 2 weeks and it was great! The only thing is, read the instructions as you are not supposed to leave this seat inflated for a long period of time in a hot car. But that wasn’t a problem for me since it inflates so quickly.

This was a last minute purchase for a city trip that we realized would likely involve some taxi/Lyft rides. We have the mi-fold high back booster seat from last year, but thats way too big to easily toss in a backpack and carry around all day. Plus, my child is taller and heavier now (a small age 7), so a backless booster is OK. The Bubble Bum was easy to use, very portable, and my child said it was plenty comfortable. The seatbelt came to the right spot on her body thanks to the strap on the back and the belt loops on the side of the seat. Well reach for this again for any trip that could involve occasional taxi/Lyft trips. I wonder how the Bubble Bum compares to the MiFold backless seat, which is currently unavailable, and maybe even smaller to carry around.
