Commute Messenger Bag

Greater than one weekIve been on the hunt for my ideal messenger bag for a while, and finally found it with this bag. Things I were looking for in a bag were: 1. padded laptop compartment (this was a must for me, and many bags including the timbuk2 classic dont come with), 2. removable strap (inevitably this is where most messenger bags fail over time, and Ive owned many bags where the strap just isnt easily replaced), 3. a functional top handle. Many messengers have this, but Ive found that in many of them lifting by the handle just dumps open the bag, 4. off of that, snap closures. There is also velcro, but the bag comes with silencers, which is nice for a work setting where nobody wants to hear me opening my bag. 5. fits all my stuff easily without looking stuffed to the brim. My daily carry with this bag is a laptop, ipad, a couple pens, water bottle, my lunch bag (containing a tupper ware container, utensil case, and a snack), and sometimes a zip up sweater for when the office gets cold. These all fit with some room to spare in the medium sized bag.

Greater than one weekI purchased the Commute Messenger to replace a TUMI that had become slightly too small. I love the sleek look of the Commute Messenger in all black and the size is perfection. I can carry everything I need without it getting too big and bulky. The strap is comfortable and the addition of bottle holders on either side is useful. I do with there were more zip pockets on the inside--the majority of them are simple open pockets. But otherwise Im very pleased with my purchase.

> 3 dayAfter much research, we finally decided on this product. We actually used it as our carry on when we went to Paris, France a year ago. The strap is comfortable and sturdy. We know, we lugged a bag full of souvenirs while walking around all of Paris. Very convenient and the inside zipped pockets prevent any pick pockets in crowded areas!

Greater than one weekCavernous bag. I really like the zip-down TSA compliant laptop pocket. I was worried about the velcro straps keeping my items in their pockets, but they work great. My bag began to rotate a bit on the conveyor belt and started to fall off. By the time I got to the bag, the laptop was hanging over the side and completely supported by the velcro strap. The laptop didnt fall out and there was no damage to the bag.

10-04-2025This is my third messenger bag in the past 5 years, and probably the best. It replaces an old design from REI that is no longer being sold. The Timbuk2 bag somehow manages to hold as much stuff as the REI bag did while taking up considerably less space. There are plenty of interior pockets to help with organization. Im not sure how water resistant it is since I havent had it outside in the rain or drizzle. The REI bag was excellent in that regard; it had an interior zipper that allowed you to completely seal off the contents of the bag from the elements. The Timbuk2 bag lacks such an interior zipper, but the outer flap may provide similar protection. I do wish that the side pockets on the outside of the bag were a little deeper, to ensure that water bottles and travel mugs stayed in place.

> 3 dayExpectations are high for this bag, which is replacing a bag I handed down to my child. If my experience with the manufacturer is any indication, this should last at least 20 years. Glad to see that the strap pad is now standard equipment. (Had to be purchased separately back in the day.)
