Folkmanis Turtleneck Turtle Hand Puppet

Folkmanis delivers a quality toy. We already had a frog and now we have this turtle. Puppets are underrated in todays battery-powered environment. This is an heirloom-quality toy that will help stoke your childs imagination. It is encouraging my toddler to speak and play pretend. It gives us a wonderful way to play together. I dont have to worry about it holding up. It withstands all the play my toddler and my young nieces can throw at it. Its adorable too! I will be buying more as gifts and to add to our collection. I got this puppet for my daughters 1st birthday. Shes already an animal lover, and instead of getting a live animal to teach her with (that could possibly have salmonella, or be hurt by too-rough hands), my husband and I figured a stuffed, yet interactive friend would help us teach her gentle hands. She was thrilled the minute she saw it, and she talks to it, hugs it, and gives it lots of kisses.. Which wouldnt be very good for a live turtle...

This puppet was a gift for my son. He saw this turtle puppet in a toy store and fell in love with it. I bought it off Amazon because it was much cheaper. My son LOVES it!!! It is very well made, and so life like. I highly recommend it for anyones puppet collection.

Purchased for daughter to play with her granddaughter

The actual item looks much darker and smaller than the photo. Also, the shell seems plastic in the photo but is actually a padded, leatherlike fabric. This is actually a good thing because its nice and cuddly. Even the size is better for being small. (Think of a small catchers mitt with a head, legs, arms and tail.) You can either control the head or the forearms but not both at once. When controlling the head you can pull it into the shell, if you hold the back of the shell with the other hand, which is cute. The wizened eyes and expression on mine have a definite Kermit the Frog vibe to me. Different but delightful and will make a great addition to my Sunday School lessons for children.

Having a great time with my 4 year old grand daughter. A little difficult to make the legs and mouth move with my hand size (Medium Small) but it can be done. All in all loads of fun.

The Turtleneck Turtle has loads of personality and charm. It fits my adult male hand so Im easily able to manipulate the mouth and both arms. It is soft, sturdy, and very snuggly. Unfortunately, vinyl shell layer peals off the fabric because the glue holding it degrades. Mine started to fail after two years, during which time the turtle had nightly snuggles, frequent adventures, and even some world travel. In another two years of gentle handling, the fragile vinyl tore where it had separated, making the problem worse. After two more years with no use the shell degraded and fell off on its own. I bought mine in mid 2013, so maybe Folkmanis has improved the glue or vinyl over the years. They really should have used cloth instead of vinyl for the shell. If youre crafty, I recommend sewing on a proper cloth shell as soon as you get this. I plan to do this to mine. I encourage you to buy the Turtleneck Turtle for anyone in your life who would enjoy his expressive and good natured personality. Just know that the shell may be fragile and the glue may fail like it did on mine.

I bought this puppet and a few others for my two daughters ages 4 & 2 for Christmas. I have to say that this is their favorite. It is very well built and they love it. They have even taken it to school to show their friends and all the kids wanted to play with it. Great toy!
