Update: After two years installing our 4 ton AC Unit with Stay Bright 8, it has worked great, no leaks, all good.

I used this to solder a leaky line dryer connection on a HVAC line set. The nice thing about this stuff is it works on copper and steel and does not require a lot of heat to work. It also has a very high tensile strength. This stuff works with a regular propane torch (not MAPP, or turbo, just regular old propane) and requires a lot less heat. The only downside is you have to clean and flux the copper or steel and it takes a bit longer to heat up than oxy acetylene, but 5 minutes of sanding is better than having to purge your line or open the system up. This stuff flows really well with about 30 secs of heat from a propane torch. Its also very strong. Its not cheap, but neither is brazing rod. Unlike braze, this can solder steel too.

Works great. Easier than brazing and super strong. Used to fix a spot on my condesor where aluminum met copper. Patched the copper without melting the aluminum. So happy how easy it was to work with

Used this instead of brazing my ac lineset. With this, there’s no need for flowing nitrogen while soft soldering. Used on a 410a system and holds up to the higher pressures just fine.

THis is a great combination. The Solder flows really nicely - heat it gently, and dont get the flux too hot. It works great with a Propane torch, just take your time. I really like this. I use Hard solder and MAPP Gas for material that will stand a Glowing Red heat, but this stuff works great at temperatures just a bit higher than lead solder.

I was skeptical that a solder could be strong enough to hold up to 300+psi of r410a, but heard good things so I gave it a try. Ive used it on several residential AC installs and it has been flawless, less leaks than brazing and wayyyy faster than brazing. You have to use Emory cloth and/or wire brush to clean the fitting very well and use less flux than you normally would with plumbing solder, just make sure to use flux on the male fitting at least. It has been a complete game changer. Instead of hauling around a heavy ass welding rig, I can just carry a 5 pound map gas torch and get it all done fast! I will be sticking with this if all proves leak free in the long term.
