HTC Vive XR Elite Virtual Reality Headset + Controllers

> 3 dayThe quality of the headset is good. The full-color passthrough is really neat especially compared to my old Samsung Odyssey WMR. I also like that the controllers pair to the headset and not to my PC. My biggest complaint is that they have clearing been pushing the 5 free titles as part of the pre-order since it was listed back in January. However, only ONE of those five titles are actually available on the headset. The other 4 are apparently coming soon with no clear release date. The Viveport store is pathetic at best. SteamVR worked with a USB cable most of the time, but it would occasionally flake out. Using Wi-Fi 6 from my router in the same room was low resolution a laggy at best. Sometimes it work for a good couple minutes and other times not at all. Overall, this thing is not worth the $1100 asking price in my opinion.

> 3 dayThe only pro is that its lightweight. The controller are cheap plastic, the tracking is awesome, the screen is fun and hard to see even on its brightest setting, no exclusive games, no virtual desktop, laggy despite my wifi 6e, did I already mention the controllers that feel like they will fall apart at any second and also have terrible battery life? This takes three place of the pico 4 as the worst headset on the market (with psvr2 taking 3rd. I HATE meta, but the meta pro has great lenses and the sweet spot is enormous, this thing feels like taking a step back in time to a colorized virtual boy with better graphics but just as useless. Already requested a return. This is an embarrassment to HTC. If you buy, have no expectations..... And youll still be disappointed. These lenses are awful.

> 3 dayIve used Meta and PICO products in the past and I want to say this product is the best in the market. Despite the cost, if only people realize how much costs go into production then one would understand the price point is reasonable. Meta is only selling at their low price point because they want your data so they can make profit out of it. HTC VIVE has no intention whatsoever of collecting your data. If you want high performance and portablity, this product is it, there isnt any other product out there. There are products that give you great performance but is no where near portable and lightweight, nor comfortable. There are products that give you portability but delivers lackluster performance and really has no solid features to use it for. Last but not least, content. Even if you dont use their own vr content platform VIVEPORT which already has all the various types of games and content that one would need, you can still obtain content from Steam which the best games and content are there. As long as you can play Beat Saber and Half Life Alyx which are really the two best games out there, I dont see why everyone is complaining about volume of content since most content are about the same. Aside from games, there are fitness such as Les Mills Body Combat, art such as Gesture VR and productivity content that can be used to enhance your day to day lives. I think majority of people just dont realize there are other non gaming content that deserves more attention to why VR or XR (extended reality) needs to be part of our lives sooner than later.

> 3 dayI wanted to like it, after about two hours I just couldnt get it to stay focused. It just doesnt feel right for someone with a wider head. I have the same problem with eyeglasses most are not wide enough for me. I returned it, but will have to wait 30 days plus up to 7 days for the banks to process the return. This is not the normal Amazon return efund policy.

> 3 dayI purchased my XR Elite via the HTC Vive store, but Im so disappointed in it that I felt a warning on Amazon was warranted. Its impressive when you first pull it out of the box, but any possibility of a good review had vanished after using the headset for less than 10 minutes. Im a Vive fanboy... I own the original Vive and the Vive Elite Cosmos and LOVE them both, but I can only assume those engineers came nowhere near the XR Elite. For reference, my SteamVR streaming rig is a relatively high-end 3080TI with a WiFi 6E router... I have no issues running the most demanding VR games at high detail on my Cosmos Elite. Good -The diopter adjustment is great -HMD is impressively small and light weight Bad -AIO software might as well be nonexistent for whats offered -PC streaming is mostly a stuttering low-rez mess and when it does work and very few SteamVR games provide bindings for the XR controllers -Uncomfortable in every configuration... glasses mode pinches your skull to literally headache inducing levels and battery mode squashes your face when you wear it tight enough not to wiggle -Terrible internal reflected light bloom in the pancake lens assemblies... bright graphics wash out the entire display -Field of view is one of the worst Ive experienced with no ability to move the lens closer to your eyes -Controllers feel like a cheap Dollar Store knockoffs -Face gasket is made of a fabric material and is already dirty and deforming in addition to constantly coming detached from the headset at the slightest bump -A ridiculous piece of cheap elastic is included as a securing head strap HTC should be embarrassed by the XR Elite and ashamed of themselves for the price point. My shame is in not retuning it immediately... now I can only hope that active improvements to the software and 3rd party accessories can save it from a dusty death at the bottom of a drawer.

Greater than one weekPros: The Vive XR Elite has a great form factor. Its lightweight, balances well while youre wearing it. I like the feel of the controllers. Video passthrough is pretty good. Its good enough to walk around the room, pick up things, and you can read text on your monitor if you get close enough. Controller tracking and hand tracking is pretty good. I know some have mentioned that the audio is not that great. I think its fine for what I use this for. I havent tried other VR headsets to compare though. Cons: I wear reading glasses, and read that the Vive XR Elite has adjustable lenses, so you could dial in your prescription. I was surprised to see that the clearest setting for me was dialing it to zero. The focus wasnt that great, but dialing any higher made it worse. I have an astigmatism, so maybe thats the issue. So if you have an astigmatism, this headset isnt for you? Hopefully there are some options in the future that will fix this. The stand-alone game options are pretty limited. Looking for more in the future... Connecting to the PC went smoothly, but the wifi connection is terrible. I have a 6G wifi router and the connection settings says its got an excellent connection, yet the VIVE Streaming Hub constantly says its dropping frames. *** Update *** I noticed my headset was flipping back and forth between my 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks. I have disabled my 2.4 GHz network in my router and that has greatly improved the WiFi experience. Plus HTC has updated the software for the headset which also seems to have greatly improved things. WiFi is working very well now. FYI, I have a modern MSI gaming laptop with 32 Gigs of ram and an NVidia 3090ti. I play SuperHot, which is fun yet has very simplistic graphics. This game works for me about 20% of the time. Forget playing something like HalfLife: Alex. *** Update *** As I mentioned before since HTCs update and turning off the 2.4 GHz network things are much improved, including HalfLife: Alex. This game works great now even in WiFi. I tried using the headset with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. First with WiFi. It came through low resolution and was jerky. Then I played it wired in through the USB-C cable. It looked much better but alternated every second between normal frame rate and lagging, which made things like landing more difficult than it should have been. *** Update *** The HTC update seems to have greatly improved wired performance as well. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 is amazing in VR. There are still cons though: Text in the cockpit is still fuzzy because I have an astigmatism and am unable to perfectly focus the headset. I tried Immersed, which is a vr desktop. The resolution and focusing issues Ive had make this unusable. This is my first VR headset, and I went by pre-release reviews of this headset, which can be risky, but I _thought_ HTC, with all their experience producing VR headsets, would come through on this one. I was very wrong. *** Update *** I am glad to say that HTCs software update fixes for both WiFi and wired and adjustments I made to my WiFi router have greatly improved performance. I have changed my rating from 1 star to 4.

Greater than one weekCons: Getting this to connect to your steam library is terrible. the Vive Streaming app just does not work. Making this unusable. The pass through isnt great. The 5 games it came with is a lie, cause 3 of them arent even out yet. The PC cable should be sold with this headset and what they charge for it is ludicrous. Pros: The headset is light and comfortable. The eye portion comfortable blocks all light for me.

Greater than one weekSo for this being a brand new product and everything. I would really highly recommend people getting this one versus the quest and all that personally. there isnt a lot of games On here yet but the games are really nice. I think the biggest problem a lot of people are having is that. You need to connect the app to your headset. Once you connect the app to your headset get it updated get everything going through there its Really Good its not bad at all. Its really clear you can change how everything looks itll dial into your view center. Everythings really beautiful I personally havent found anything bad with it yet. The hand tracking is a little different and a little buggy but I dont like using my hands all the time so im still experimenting with it. I love the way the headset sits on my head how it feels. I think its really nice and I think its worth the money and some of the games that you buy for it right now really nice. I would at least try it knowing that you have to add the app to it to make sure it runs good.

Greater than one weekMarketing so aggressively to such a niche market is only risky if you are unable to deliver, and this headset falls very short of expectations they themselves set. The hardware has promise, in so far as I could be OK with it IF the software experience wasnt so underwhelming. I certainly would like to veer away from Meta to support privacy centric efforts and willing to pay a premium for that. However the state of the UI / UX is so rough, that I do not have the patience to cheerlead for future updates will sort this out. Not for $1200 after tax. I was ready to scoop up accessories and lean into this headset, but I will happily continue on with PCVR via the Quest 2 headset for now. It really boggles the mind how they could even ship a product with software in such a state as if there were no market leaders present currently highlighting the short coming so plainly. Hopefully they can get sorted on future iterations. Im increasingly interested in Big Screens product despite the workarounds for feature parity as I am not skeptical about their marketing. Unfortunately my opinion of HTC is now negatively informed by their willingness to ship a product that over promises and under delivers.
