Many say that CDs and DVDs are no longer used. We have entered a complete digital age. While haveing digital content is fine, I like to have a physical item instead, not stored in the cloud which could be hacked into or lost or not accessed if the internet goes down. I also like things which can be portable, USB is good but sometimes I still want something else. A good CD for music and DVD for movies is great. I also do not want to purchase again movies or old CDs just to have them in digital format. This CD/DVD is great. Small and compact so easily able to be used. I can connect this to a tv, though not able to rewind or do anything else unless the TV supports that or connect to any computer. I have not tested the light scribe function due to not needing it. I have tested with Windows 10 and also different Linux systems. I only had to install on the Linux systems the driver needed to operate this type of drive on the USB, some have it already included. This drive played my good older CDs and DVDs. I have not tested the write ability but it was able to access my DVDs that I had previously written in 2010 and had no problem. This is also something good since many motherboards and computer parts needing drivers or other items still include CDs or DVDs and not have a USB included. Can access these items without any problems and not need to connect to the Internet to download those files Highly Recommend for those like me who want to continue using CDs and DVDs or want to have the ability to store on storage which is more physical. Highly Recommended also for a tool to anyone who builds their own computers or wants to add components to their computers. Not tested on Macintosh systems. Tested on the latest Debian, Ubuntu (debian based), Arch Linux, Gentoo, and Fedora linux systems and MS Windows 10 Home OEM.

I haven’t been able to play my computer games on my laptop or office computer because I didn’t have a disc drive. This was easy to hook up and plays perfect. It’s sleek looking and compact and isn’t loud when reading the disc. We just found a bunch of cds in my moms storage room and are going through old pictures she had burned to some of the discs. And can’t wait to see what else she had stashed on discs. Love this.

Since more and more laptops are not coming with CD/DVD drives I go this. I had plugged it into a USB extension that I keep near my keyboard, but it kept connecting and disconnecting. Once I plugged it directly into the docking station it was able to stay connected. I like that it has an USB C connector on it along with the USB A connector, but Im always worried when something comes with a hardwired USB cord, what happens when the cord frays or connector gets damaged - you cant change them out and the device is dead. Overall, glad I got it to continue to burn photos and document backups for my mom.

I like how you dont need an additional power cable or 2 USB ports to power it. It is compact and light. The USB-C connection is perfect for my laptop. Most laptops are doing away with the standard USB so this will help in either situation. I plugged it into my PC and it worked right away. No need to install separate drivers. Im not thinking to use it for burning but that may come in handy in a pinch. I just need it to play instructional videos at various sites. I put in a DVD from my movie collection and it played just fine using VLC media player with no jutter or delay. Jumping between scenes using the slider was instantaneous. Im very impressed with this small DVD player.

I purchased this to help archive family videos on old DVDs. Plugged it in to a USB3 port and it worked flawlessly without any configuration needed in Windows 10. It feels pretty well built as well.

The Alphami dvd drive sold by Cloudtale is made in PRC (china). The USB external drive case houses a slim DVD drive, and my external case had the HP DS-8A5LH optical drive with firmware revision 1H68 installed. The drive worked well when plugged in, no issues with drivers or such on Windows 10 and 11. My previously installed Nero software worked fine with this drive (software not included). The housing has some padded feet on the bottom, which helps when the drive is spun to full speed. This is a decent DVD writer. 4 stars

I am really pleased with this external drive. It works well with my laptop. It was just what I was looking for. Plays both DVDs and CDs as well as reading and writing to writable CDs and DVDs. I also like that the connection cable stores in the botton of the unit and has both USB-A and USB-C connectors.

The first thing we were delighted about was the dual connection the drive permits. Both USB-A and USB-C connections are permitted. Although “A” is still the standard, “C” is hot on its heels. We are happy to have the option of going either way. It’s cool that it can do LightScribe laser etching, but that requires special discs that we won’t be experimenting with. Some may find this a plus, though. We have both Apple and Windows computers around here, and the drive performed well on both. Both recognized the drive without hesitation and were ready to go. Small, happy with both CDs and DVDs, and ready for both a USB-A or a USB-C connection, there isn’t much to complain about with this drive. We hope this was helpful.

The Alphami Lightscribe External DVD Drive must be quite sturdy, because the product box was shipped in a skimpy mailing envelope and arrived undamaged. It was Plug and Play on a Windows 11 Dell computer using the USB-C port. It is quite compact, so it is easy to fit into a computer bag. I was able to use the Drive to view an assortment of pre-recorded CDs and DVDs as well as to record on both CDs and DVDs. The recording was very fast. I filled a 704 megabyte CD-R in a little over 3 minutes. I did not test the Lightscribe feature as I had no Lightscribe capable disks, but having the option is good. I had no trouble placing disks in and removing them from the disk drawer, but occasionally the drawer would not open when the button on the front of the device was pushed. The Eject command in File Explorer worked in these cases, but there is also a Forced Ejection Hole on the front of the drive. It is designed so that the dual USB-A/C cable will store in the bottom of the unit which is convenient, but means the cable is short, so it is only 8 inches. The product description warns that the Drive might not work when connected through a USB hub or with cable extensions, so the short length could be an inconvenience. Also folding and unfolding the cable this way might result in early cable failure that would render the device unusable.

Absolutely fantastic plug-n-play. As soon as I connected it to my laptop it immediately worked. And as soon as I inserted an old DVD disk it opened my File Management program to show me what was on the disk. Talk about easy to use! This player is very light and portable. But it’s not a big rugged machine so I wouldn’t just throw it in a backpack w/out making sure that it is protected by some type of padding. It is fairly quiet though it does make a slight whirling sound when in use. However, it is not obtrusive and could be used in most places w/out anyone complaining about the noise. The connector cord is very short and is permanently attached to the bottom of the player. It has a cable with both a USB 3.0 and Type C connector. This is a dandy little external drive CD/DVD player. It immediately worked on both my laptop (Acer) and on my Dell desktop. I thoroughly recommend it.
