Melissa & Doug 20 Wooden Animal Magnets in a Box - Cute Animal Fridge, Refrigerator Magnets For Toddlers Ages 2+

This is one of a few different Melissa & Doug products I bought to work on give me... style tasks with our son, who has Autism among other things. One of the reasons I went with these is that the magnet is thin and flat all across the back, and I see that as being very desirable. I have a chewer, and items that have smaller more powerful magnets are riskier, because heaven forbid he should swallow more then one, its a great way to punch holes in your gut. And Im all about minimizing risk in this household. My son understands more then many people give him credit for, but he still has very limited impulse control, those inhibiting signals just dont make it in time yet. So, weve had these for over 2 years now, and the magnets still work, which I think is great from the durability standpoint, because Ive seen thinner magnets that loose their ability to adhere to metal over a similar period of time. So, I think they are very durable, IF...you do everything you can to keep your kid from chewing on them. Which, for anything with a magnet on it, I think is a must. Like many of their puzzles and their other magnet products, these do have a cardstock image glued onto the wood, which naturally, will not hold up to chewing. Ill ding them for that on a puzzle, because thats something I personally would be willing to turn my back on. A magnet, Im never willing to turn my back on a kid who is a chewer when it comes to magnets, so this is a toy I keep up out of reach when were not using it. And thats actually how I recommend you use this, as I would with any magnetic toy, supervising it carefully, unless you have an older child who has no desire to chew on these kinds of things.

A few pieces fell apart when I opened the box, I don’t think they will last long with this condition. I will be returning them.

I love these magnets, and so does my one year old. They are a great way to keep her entertained while Im in the kitchen cooking or cleaning up. My only critique is that the picture comes off rather easily. My daughter is still in the chewing on everything phase so they go in her mouth from time to time and some of the pictures are coming off. I am, however, aware that these were recommended for older kids so thats probably more my bad than anything (also, before you panic, I took out all of the animals that are small enough for her to choke on... we can learn about birds when she is 2...). Overall, these are great and I would recommend them!

This was a great product for little ones (my granddaughter is 14 months old who can identify all of the different animals) to learn the names of different animals and what they look like. You can teach your child what sounds the animals make. It is adorable to listen to them make the animal sounds. They are large enough for toddlers’ fingers to easily manipulate and also large enough that you don’t have to be overly concerned about choking hazards. Another great feature is that the entire back surface of animal are magnetic. Therefore, concerns of swallowing small magnets is negated. There is only one downside of the product. The animals come in a very nice wooden box, but there is no lid or top for the box!! We put the animals back in the box when finished playing, but the box is open and animals can spill out. Besides that (which I suppose in the whole scheme of things is minor), the product is excellent. My granddaughter and I have fun playing. I pick out an animal, she names it, then makes the animal sound, and she puts it on the refrigerator. When done, we do it in reverse as she puts the animals back in the box. I feel this is an excellent well constructed, safe, educational, durable, and fun product!! I would recommend it for all toddlers and elementary school age children who need to learn to identify and name animals!!! Jeri Miller Ps. My daughter loves theme.She always plays with them and we used it to teach her about animals and their sound.

Our 14 month old loves magnets! I wanted something a little more dynamic and exciting than the standard alphabet magnets. These animals are very cute and she has a lot of fun with them. I do wish that the box came with a lid on it but thats ok. Highly recommend these magnets for children to play with.

Love the color, the feel, durable, water resistant so far. And none were to small for toddler
