Drive is either New-Old-Stock (NOS) or a pull. Either way, Im pretty happy with it. It had light surface corrosion on the steel parts, but the ckt cards and motors/harnesses/connectors looked perfect. Maybe it had been fumigated with the wrong gas at some point in its life or stored in a less than dry location for a LONG LONG LONG time. (not a wet location--not that much corrosion--very light, but more than Ive seen on some of my 20+ year old china-stamped-steel chassis innards that are in my garage) I believe that a lot of the worked for a while and then quit reviews are probably due to the above conditions. My replacement drives bearings and motors all spun freely (like the one I pulled) and it has been going strong for about a week, so no complaints here... plus I didnt have to try to move my games off the old wii and onto a replacement--and was able to hopefully put off the wii-u upgrade for another great while :) No matter what though, none of this is likely the sellers fault and is probably why the drives are so inexpensive. (e.g. you can buy 3-4 of these and still be less than the $75 that Nintendo will charge for the full service.) I didnt check date codes as the kids wanted to play right away! BTW, it is a DVD drive, but the Wii wont play DVDs with stock firmware. Also, this drive is quiet, just like my original drive was and seems to perform similarly to the original drive as far as load speeds and such. (my original just quit abruptly--was working one day and not at all the next... just wouldnt spin the disk anymore--this was a real life-saver)

Okay for the price, I didnt expect new. This was clearly pulled from a broken machine, but it worked, it fixed my Wii, and it was cheap. I had no problem installing it, done and done. For not quite twice the price of a new optic for my old drive, and a much easier install, I got the whole drive, including motor and other things that might have been wrong with my old one. Very happy.

Im certain this item was pulled from a returned Wii (under warranty). Its extremely LOUD while spinning the DVD. Can be heard from another room. Its with all DVD when playing. Disappointed. It works. All I can say. I expect the DVD to eject one day and fly across the room and go through the wall.

Fixed our old Wii and it works like new again. Process was reasonably easy, though there were many steps. So many tiny screws! Just look for instructions on the web or YouTube. Tool wise you need some standard small screwdrivers, plus a special tri-wing screwdriver that you can buy here on Amazon. Child is happy and Im happy since I didnt have to buy a new game machine.

Its been 7 years since I first bought my replacement and it continues to run like a charm. Be sure to study a teardown well in advance to be safest with your installation

Shipment was quick, install was easy and it has been wirking flawlessly for weeks now. Best thing is that the family can once again enjoy game night, just like when they were younger.

So taking apart a wii console isn’t THAT hard, but it does involve some special tools (tri point screwdriver, fine tip Phillips head drivers), and removing the dvd drive does require some care. I recommend watching some ‘how to’ videos online first, but after installing this new drive, the Wii runs like new, and all for less than $30. The old drive wouldn’t take discs anymore (would spit them back out, if you were lucky). Quick shipping too!

This cd-drive is brand new, high quality, fast shipping and A+ packaging. I was delighted that it was so simple to install. My Wii had been knocked over and damaged the laser in my other cd-drive and to buy a new Wii would put me over budget and to have a repair tech swap it out was going to cost me $65.00!! So I bought this baby for less than $20, it took me approximately 4 minutes to install it and put the casings back on. Now it is just like new!
