Played this when I was still a teen and I liked it, worth getting instead of the newer pokemon games so I might even go back to collect the older pokemon games just to play them/feel like a kid again. The story was good (can barely remember alot of it but I remember replaying the game alot). Some characters were memberable some werent, dialogue is the same as the older games/newer ones. Setting and new pokemon were fantastic to me but of course some of those things werent.

Pokemon Sun gives a twist to the Pokemon series that was much needed. Theres enough familiarity for the 20 year fans to give us the nostalgia of traditional Pokemon games, but also enough of it is different to make it a fresh experience. Ive been playing Pokemon since Pokemon Yellow, and this game by far is one of the best in the series. Alola immerses you like the very first generations did, and I never felt like I wanted out of any particular area. All of the areas were enjoyable, and it never felt forced. The graphics are about the same as X and Ys, and Omega Rubys and Alpha Sapphires - but also has a bit of a style change on the menus. The characters are no longer in a chibi-like style, and are actually full-sized characters this time around. Controls are tighter and more responsive than previous games, and you feel like you have full control of your character. The music is also pretty diverse and has a wide range of likable OST. The performance issues that were in the past two installments have also carried over to this game (lag during battles), unfortunately. One of the main downfalls of the game is that its either too easy or too difficult. Its never an in between struggle. If you spend time leveling up your team, youll one hit everyones Pokemon. If you dont take the time to level your team up, youll struggle very badly against Pokemon the same level as you. This is a struggle that all of the newer games seem to have, and Im disappointed that it carries over to this game as well. Speaking of difficulty, the puzzles in the game werent challenging at all, if you can even call what they had puzzles. The Pokemon games puzzles have been lacking since the first few titles, and Im afraid that they were lacking even more so in puzzle difficulty than they were in X and Y. I found myself solving all of the puzzles on the first or second try, and never felt the need to think about them and plan them out like I have in the older games. Coming to the story however, the story was amazing. X and Ys story was lackluster and boring, but Sun and Moons story was a very much needed addition to the Pokemon franchise. I actually felt attached to the characters, and I will remember them vividly (which is more than what I can say for X and Ys characters), especially Hau, Lillie and Nebby, whom you travel with throughout the entirety of the game. Overall, I would give this game a 4/5 stars. The major flaws with this game in my opinion were the difficulty levels and the post-story once you beat the game. I would highly recommend this game to long-time Pokemon lovers, and to first time Pokemon players as well.

Pros: HM moves abandoned for dedicated Pokemon that are not in your party for utilities like fly. This is implemented well, what they should have done from the start. TMs can be reused over and over, not new to this game but much appreciated continuation Totem Pokemon and island challenges are an interesting alternative to gyms. I liked it, but they could have had both in my opinion Game looks great and plays great Pokemon ally system is great for chaining for advanced Pokemon for competitive play The bean islands are a great addition, I can make mountains of berries quickly Cons: Team Skull is lame Most trainers have 1 Pokemon, I would prefer less trainers with more Pokemon Too easy No mega evolution Abandoned some nice features like the dexnav

I really didnt think I would like what they did to the game, removing the grid-like movement, but it plays very smoothly! I do wish you could move your character with the d-pad as well as the joystick though. (Edit:) After finally getting around to playing the game in its entirety, I can say this is probably the worst of every Pokemon game released. The Graphics are modern, but lack style or memorability, and the difficulty of the game was dropped tremendously (aside from one ABSURDLY difficult fight that felt very out of place). I didnt hate the game, it was just not very good. The worst part about the whole thing was the unskippable dialogue and story scenes which went very slow and were extremely uninteresting. If youre going to buy these games, just skip to Ultra sun or Ultra moon. They fix the story to some extent and make the whole game play and look so much better (though I would place those firmly in second-to-last place out of the franchise).

Ive been playing Pokémon since the original Red/Blue versions and although Im only 25 hours into Sun, its already one of my favorites. Game Freak did a great job of making it feel new while maintaining what I fell in love with back in the 90s. The only issue I have is that the tutorial is way too long. It Last about the first four hours and holds your hand through the entire time; we didnt need back it 96, and kids these days dont need it either. Still, great game. I have heard it runs pretty poorly on older 3ds and 2ds, so keep that in mind if you dont own a New Nintendo 3DS (as in the name of the device, not if it was previously owned or not)

Yes, I know, why make a review this late? Isnt Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon already out. Well, I say better now than never and because I got this game rather late (Why? Not even I know as Im a die-hard Pokemon fan so maybe because I was a bit broke recently, I guess). Enough about me though, let me review this games strengths and drawbacks using a handy list! Lets start with the good: 1. New Pokemon!!! The Alohan versions of past Pokemon are very awesome. 2. The character you play as is very customizable. (Probably the most customizable character as of yet) 3. The graphics are amazing and better than any past Gameboy and DS Pokemon game before. 4. The plot is pretty epic. (All games have been story driven but still) 5. Features like the Exp. Share quickly raise your pokemons levels. (Very useful when training a barely caught pokemon you wanna put in your team) 6. Some new things are introduced like Z- moves, Poke Pelago, even easier connection with other players close and far. 7. Theres something called Ride pokemon which fuction as like helping you search for hidden items, surf, fly, run crazy fast, etc. This means you no longer have to teach your personal team any of those pesky HM moves. This gives you much more freedom to create a diverse and awesome team. Its unfortunate, but there are some bad stuff I didnt like. Here goes: 1. I dont like the layout of the this region. Its divided by 4 islands. The concept at first was cool but it got tiring fast. It makes it seem like all the towns, cities, and routes are squished in together and literally find yourself in circles. 2. Some Pokemon, items, and locations are very far off in the story. If you want a specific pokemon, item, or reach a place so you can evolve a specific pokemon, get one into your team, or need a item to evolve your pokemon, then tough luck because you have to play until you reach it which kinds sucks. (I wanted a Porygon and Type: Null but apparently you cant get them until AFTER the story... that sucks a lot...to say the least). 3. Wheres Super Training? I want it back ever so bad. Sure, the mini games in it were tedious but at least they increased your Pokemons stats. (Theres Hyper Traning but you can only do that if your Pokemon are in level 100.) 4. The game seems so short. Unlike other games like HeartGold/SoulSilver or Platinum which seem much longer. 5. So theres new Pokemon but there are few that catch my attention. (Other than the Alohan versions of previous Pokemon). 6. Since at least Gen 6, the games have become way too easy. As a seasoned Pokemon player, I dont like the hand holding the games are doing now. I wish they continued what they did in Gen 5, which had difficulty levels. 7. Lets talk about... Z - Moves. They are not nearly as cool as Mega evolution. Sure, the Z- Moves summon insanely powerful moves but its still disappointing compared to Mega Evolution. This games pretty much ignores Mega Evolution, which is a downer. The only bonus is that you watch as your character does a ridiculous dance like movement to unleash the Z-Moves. Its amusing. Ok, so this is the main stuff I liked and didnt like about Pokemon Sun. Yes, its still a good game I would keep in my collection and its replayable but some stuff was left out of previous games that made them unforgettable. The Z-moves just arent doing it for me. The island layout is not that amazing in my opinion. However, features like Ride Pokemon and other older features like the Exp. Share contribute to make this game pretty awesome. So overall, a good game that could of been a bit better but its still worth playing and enjoying the way it is.

Hands down the best Pokémon game since HeartGold & SoulSilver. Mixing up the formula REALLY worked for them! The new features are great, lots of old features have been revamped to be significantly less annoying than ever before (EV training, hatching eggs, showing the effectiveness of your moves if youve encountered the Pokémon before, being allowed to choose if you want to send a pokémon into a PC box or replace one of your party Pokémon, etc.), and the characters are all brilliantly written. Here I was thinking I might be finally done with Pokémon after X/Y bored me to the point where I couldnt finish it, but much to my joy I find that theres plenty here to keep me engaged. 20 years later, and Pokémon is still going strong! Whether youre an old fan of the series, or never got to it back in the previous generations, pick up this game. You wont be disappointed!

Havent played a pokemon game since Ruby. The story was really different, there arent badges in this one. There are some other pokemon abilities you can unlock using Z moves which was new. The island has a very relaxing vibe to it. The difficulty is very easy, I think most people would have a breeze playing it. Wonder Trade is where you can trade pokemon with anyone in the world. You pick a random pokemon and you get a random one from someone else. Pretty cool when you get something good!

Im only giving this game 4 stars because of one downside to the gameplay that really annoys me; the wild Pokemon being able to call for help from other wild Pokemon. It is the single more annoying thing in this game! Every time I wanted to catch the Pokemon if I didnt have it, the damn thing would call for help and then Id have to get rid of the second one before trying to catch the first one. But right after I do get rid of the second one, the first one would call for help AGAIN. One Pokemon did it up to 5 times in a row! Another sort of downfall; and this one Ive seen a lot of in reviews is that there is far too much story to gameplay. Its like watching a pixleized mini movie with SOME gameplay sprinkled in. Not even X/Y, Omega Ruby was like that. There was a leveled amount of gameplay to story in them. But Sun? Mostly reading dialogue and going here or there to get into MORE story. If you like having a lot of story, buy the game; if not, then dont buy the game. Its really that simple. I may still get Moon at some point but I actually stopped playing when I got to the final Kahuna the chick with the Clydesdale like Pokemon because my Pokemon are freaking weak against her.
