> 24 hourGranted, this is a good game in the sense that it’s easy to learn and teach and is about as simple a euro-style, worker placement game as you’re going to get... ...and admittedly it’s fun... BUT! It suffers from some major issues. I’m going to have to compare this to Lords of Waterdeep which, as of this writing, is actually $33 and this is $35. Even if LoWD was selling for $40 or $45 I’d say go with that LONG before you get this (unless this is going for $25 or so). So, you’ve watched videos on YouTube on how to play and read other reviews here that explain it. But how is it, really? The experience that is. Pros - as stated previously, it’s VERY easy to learn and teach. It almost a “filler” kind of game to me but with the length of the game sort of over shooting that mark. But yeah, it’s that simple. It’s a beautiful game, great artwork and production quality (the coins are metal!). While simple, it does have some strategy to it. Cons - it felt like it was missing two things to me, choice and combat. The village choices didn’t seem “chunky” enough and the selection is limited. LoWD KILLS this game in that respect allowing players to add more options to the board during play. Also, when it came to “raiding” I felt I was doing it wrong the first time because it was so anticlimactic. Have the Viking and the provisions required? Done. You “raided”. Collect your loot. It felt like there should have been SOMEthing to denote a battle of some kind. Sure your Vikings have strength values, sure your roll upnto two red dice...but these are just to determine how many victory points you’re going to get for the raid. Vikings have strength but don’t use it in actual battle?? Hmmm. This one really is a no brainer - MUCH better worker placement games out there and for the same price! This one has its little elements (place a worker, remove a worker) but it’s boring compared to a game like Lords of Waterdeep. UPDATE! So, we’ve pulled this game out now a few times since my original review and I’ve upgraded it to 3 stars instead of 2. Since my original post, many expansions have become available for this base game that have done an effective job of making it “better”. However, you’ll need to invest in those expansions to get there, obviously. It’s also a legitimate turnoff for many people who don’t want to have to buy expansions to make an “ok” game better. They want something good -great right out of the box! I don’t blame them! Plenty of those games out there. But, I did want to say the game has grown over time and coincidentally, with the numerous expansions to choose from, you can grow with it. In essence, you can scale the game to your liking by adding an expansion to it.

> 24 hourFun game, beautiful artwork & wonderful components. This game is a homerun and I believe that its a must have. Game play is smooth & so much fun that after playing it the first time I was itchy to play it again. Game is a light-to-mid-weight Viking worker placement. In this game you are trying to gather resources in the village, recruit Viking warriors and go plunder nearby town areas for their resources. Turns are fast as you either work in the village or go to war as you plunder; either work or war. There are many ways to gain victory points (glory) so have fun.

> 24 hourGreat Game!!! The first time I played it was probably about a 30-40 min. long explanation of the rules and terms of play, though it was rather distracted explanation and I would guess that if you less of a board game novice as my friends and I you would be able to explain it rather quickly. After 1.5 rounds of play or so the game just took off and the rules were barely glanced at after. The second time I played was with someone who had never played before. This time I explained the game in its entirety in about 15, though the player did have some previous knowledge with games of a similar sort. We were able to make it through the game with minimal mistakes and improper actions. The game is super well balanced with many different ways to gain the victory points (the games main scoring value). As you raid there can be a lot of thought an strategy that goes into your decisions. There a few low armor level towns people are that could be great to have in the beginning of the game, but by the end you’d probably want to sacrifice them to a Valkyrie if you get the chance. Both times I’ve played have been pretty relaxed I’d say, but we still had multiple times where a player would sit for 10min. trying to figure whether they should work or raid, or whether they should drop a worker at the Town Hall first or at the Gate House. This game has a very simple design which makes it enjoyable to a wide age range, but if intense strategy and mind melting planning is your cup of tea this game could be for you as well. One thing that I believe the game could use more player verses player involvement. As is there is only a small hint of sabotage that can be passed around. But I’m a big fan of setbacks and backstabbing I’m board games. (It lets you know who your real friends are). I’m primarily of something similar to the Thief in Catan some that sets multiple people back but is not in use all that often. I don’t know for sure. Anyway great game lots of fun would recommend for everyone.

> 24 hourWith 2 players, it took 90 minutes; at 70 minutes, I wanted it to be over. Only played one game and it was a massive blowout, I think I lapped her. Big map taking up space and many pieces to make a lengthy set up and take down time. For the first time, I prefer the app.
