This is truly an amazing product, and an amazing filter! I almost didnt buy this, because I thought that I had to purchase another bag to hold the beads in. But its important to know (and, they should update the description!) that in this size (not being the bulk beads) the beads already come in the appropriate bag! You simply drop the bag into your filter box, and youre done! This has polished my water to an unprecedented level of clarity. It is truly amazing. My tank is now like watching an HD television! We have a pea puffer, and they really prefer a high water quality. After I started using this filter, the puffer comes out to investigate his surroundings more, and he is also much more interested in the happenings outside of the tank. The water is HD clear, the fish are super happy, and this product is amazing. Thanks Seachem! Ive switched to Seachem products over API, as I believe their technology to be superior. Important note! Dont use another brands stress guard with this. Use Seachems. Even in their instructions, they explain this.

I’ve been looking for something to get rid of the tannins in my tank due to a large piece of Mopani wood. I was doing ~70% water changes once a week to try and keep the water clear. I put the Purigen in my filter last night and 12 hours later my tank is CRYSTAL clear. Purigen is now a product that I’ll always have on hand.

Seachem Purigen is a good product if you have ammonia, nitrite, nitrate problems. I have a dwarf shrimp farming business and I use this in two of my tanks because shrimp are more sensitive to water quality than fish. I definitely keep the nitrogenous compounds at nearly 0 in the water with this product. As far as the claims for this product go, I have to say they are accurate. Using this in an eheim classic I have 0/0/0 of the nitrogenous compounds. So why did I give this four stars? Well, I have no proof of this but it seems as if purigen does take a small amount of nutrients out of the water as well. My evidence is that the tanks I use this in, the shrimp do not seem to reproduce and thrive as well as the tanks I do not use this in (shrimp use nutrients in the water column). I would definitely recommend this product to fish keepers and anyone that has problems with nitrogenous compounds, but for shrimp keepers I would recommend using an additional nutrient source when using purigen.

This product works perfectly my Seachem Tidal filter keeping the water crystal clear. It can be recharged over and over by first soaking in bleach/water, then using Prime to deactivate the bleach (instructions on you tube). So purchase 2, use one in the filter, while you are recharging the other.

If regular filtration is not enough to make your water crystal clear do not hesitate to buy this product. It works overnight.

My water is so much clearer. Im loving it! I deducted a star because my package was opened and someone taped it back up. Im not sure if it was a return or just tore open at some point.

I have a 55 gal tank. I added Mopani wood after I had soaked it for two weeks and boiled it twice. I thought it wouldnt leach tannins into the water because I assumed I had soaked/boiled it enough.. I was so VERY wrong. Water changes didnt do much good (personally) for me with the tannins. The water remained that yucky dark yellow/tea color. As soon as I added the Purigen packs (I tried one and it helped a little, I figured what the heck and put three in my canister) to my ehiem canister filter the water cleared right up and my fish and plants are now thriving. I had been holding off on adding another piece of Mopani to my tank after the tannins had gotten out of control from the first piece. After the water became clear I decided--what the heck/why not-- and placed my other pre-soaked piece into my tank. Its getting a bit cloudy again from the new piece but no where near as bad as it was with just the one piece of wood without the Purigen. Im going to attempt to clean/recharge the Purigen via the instructions. Ill update if its still as effective after cleaning. If its not as effective ill purchase a few more of these packets, because they are miracle workers. You would think that a product this great would be outrageously priced..I sure am glad that it fits my budget. I posted side by side pics of my before and after Purigen below. The post/clear pics are three days after the Purigen was in my filter doing its thing. You can clearly see the drastic difference.

Este producto es la mejor opción para agua cristalina!! Y lo mejor es reusable , recomiendo tener 2 para cuando se efectúa el mantenimiento del mismo poner el otro en el filtro limpio…

I have mopani wood in my tank and it stains my water nearly red. Purigen makes my water crystal clear within hours. It’s a little on the pricier side but it’s reusable if you clean it properly

Our Fluval Spec looked like somebody had brewed tea in it! (See first picture.) Water tests were all normal; we even had the aquarium store check to make sure we hadn’t missed something. I was “cruising” Amazon aquarium media, reading the reviews as well as the descriptions, when I happened across this product. Bunny, one of the reviewers mentioned Mopani wood and tannins. (Thank you, Bunny!) We also had added Mopani wood before the problem had started, but had not made the connection. We received our bag of Purigen, rinsed it off, and added it below the Fluval filter. Two hours layer, the water was free of tannins. (See second picture) while the water in the second picture appears cloudy, it was no longer brown. In the second picture the slight cloudiness was caused by tiny suspended oxygen bubbles; reconfiguring the angle of the water return nozzles ‘cleared’ that problem. The downside: when the water was orangish-brown, our two male dwarf gouramis didn’t notice each other. When the tannins were removed, each could see the other. They started to fight so frequently, we had to re-home of slightly more aggressive one.
