> 3 dayI was skeptical at first of purchasing since Ive not heard of this product locally. Now this is a staple item for our tanks. We are so excited at the clarity of our tanks. All the hard work to clean them and money invested is now topped off by the clear water. I am amazed and do excited to find something easy that makes such a HUGE IMPACT. Love this product!!!!

> 3 dayExcellent for organic filtering in both fresh and salt water. Comes in a mesh bag that keeps the Purigen beads in while blocking out debris, and is easy to rinse as needed. This product allows for more leeway in aquarium maintenance than many other filtering products. It does well in keeping the water clear and free of foam. Easy to tell when it is exhausted by the change in color. Its a good idea to have spares on hand to help maintain proper cycle while regenrating an exhausted set

> 3 dayOur Fluval Spec looked like somebody had brewed tea in it! (See first picture.) Water tests were all normal; we even had the aquarium store check to make sure we hadn’t missed something. I was “cruising” Amazon aquarium media, reading the reviews as well as the descriptions, when I happened across this product. Bunny, one of the reviewers mentioned Mopani wood and tannins. (Thank you, Bunny!) We also had added Mopani wood before the problem had started, but had not made the connection. We received our bag of Purigen, rinsed it off, and added it below the Fluval filter. Two hours layer, the water was free of tannins. (See second picture) while the water in the second picture appears cloudy, it was no longer brown. In the second picture the slight cloudiness was caused by tiny suspended oxygen bubbles; reconfiguring the angle of the water return nozzles ‘cleared’ that problem. The downside: when the water was orangish-brown, our two male dwarf gouramis didn’t notice each other. When the tannins were removed, each could see the other. They started to fight so frequently, we had to re-home of slightly more aggressive one.

> 3 dayThe bag it is sealed in doesnt prevent the smaller beads from escaping. Youll always lose about a quarter of them. You have to shake them in the trash, while wearing a mask to prevent inhalation of the dust. Then do the same in a bucket of water for a few minutes. Finally, rinse well in shower tub or use outside hose to spray it well. This not only prevents the smallers beads from getting into your aquarium, but also activates purigen more effectively as the shipping/storage process can dry out the beads. After this process, the purigen can be used in your filter. Even if the flow is low.

> 3 dayI have been using these purigen packs for a few years with great success. However the last two packs that I ordered the bag which holds the purigen had been torn and the media is loose. I thought it was a one time thing but since my last bag which i ordered in sept 2020 was also torn it may seem to be normal now. I will continue to use purigen but i will stop ordering these small packs and switch to bulk and filter bags. oh well.

Greater than one weekThis product may be the best addition to my aquariums that Ive ever purchased. It came time to reorder carbon media for my Fluval HOB filtration systems, and I happened to stumble on this by chance and thought heck Ill give it a try. Im pretty meticulous in keeping my aquarium water in healthy condition and I would not have said that my water ever seemed cloudy to me, but literally within 12 hours of using this, the fish tank water is so visibly sparkling that it honestly shocked me. I wondered if it were some sort of fluke, so I ordered another bag for my second tank and saw the exact same results. Seriously -- if you are an aquarium enthusiast with a replaceable carbon media bag, you will NOT regret switching to this product. Id give it 10 stars if I could!

Greater than one weekThis product is amazing! The entire packet can be used in a tank from 5 gallons up to 100. I had been told driftwood needed to be boiled before putting in a tank. I did so many times and when I thought the water was no longer brown, I put it in my tank. Within days it looked like my fish were swimming in coffee. Purigen to the rescue! I put a packet where my filter media goes and by the end of the week, my water was crystal clear. The packet was filled with the tannins released by the driftwood. The great thing about Purigen is that after you soak it in bleach, rinse thoroughly, soak it in clean water and let it dry out, it recharges and can be used many more times.

Greater than one weekI put this in my tank on Saturday upon delivery. I followed instructions and rinsed it several minutes under running water. My hands smelt funny almost like a fishy smell after handling. I had to wash a few times before the smell went away. On Monday one of my guppies was dead. It was a fish we have had for several years and my 7 y/o was upset. I removed this filter and just used the regular filters. I also noticed a slight rotten smell when walking in that room my kids didnt notice it but when I leaned over the tank the slight smell is coming from there. I also noticed my other guppy had fin rot and today his eyes are bulging. I have 10g tank with quite a few fish (I know we need a bigger tank we had one molly and 2 guppies in September went on vacation noticed some bubbles and a few days later realized we had baby fish) while this did make the water crystal clear it also made my fish sick and the tank smell. I vacuum and water change regularly. I have never had a problem like this with my fish in the 2+ years we have become fish parents. I have ordered some tetra lifeguard and hope that gets here in time and saves them. We have quite a few spotted black molly and they too are having ill effects some have orange spots on them now and I noticed one with bulging eyes as well. I will work to get them back to health and stick with the regular filters. Hopefully our original guppy (Blue) survives.

> 3 dayI absolutely love this product! It works miracles on my tanks. I have two heavily stocked tanks. Yes, I committed the ultimate no, no. I proactively ordered Purigen so that I could have it on hand when needed. Well... the time came... Something went awry with my 5 gallon tank and I lost two ghost shrimp and a cory cat within a few days. These die offs most likely created an ammonia spike and the remaining fish were feeling it. One of my mollies kept brushing against the plants in the tank. I tested the water and the ammonia was in the stress range. I broke out my new bag of Purigen, read the directions and then inserted it on top of my filter where water would flow through it. Within just 10 or so minutes. The mollie was no longer brushing up against the plants. The next day when I got up and looked at the tank, the water was crystal clear and all fish were swimming actively. About a week later, my 10 gallon tank started to get a yellow-green dingy appearance. I smelled the water and it had a bad odor. The fish were barely swimming... it seemed as though they were feeling the effects of the dirty water. I put the bag of Purigen from my 5 gallon tank into my 10 gallon tank and bam! It seemed like within only 10 or 15 minutes the fish started getting livelier. The next morning, the 10 gallon tank was crystal clear. In fact it looks as good as the first day I filled it with water if not better. I should have taken a before and after picture of my tank, but didnt think of it. I did take a picture a couple days after I added the Purigen, and have attached it to this review. Apologies for the poor quality of the picture as I took it with a cheap cell phone. :) In addition, I attached a picture of where I inserted the bag of Purigen. I thought this would be helpful because I had no idea where to install the bag before I started using the product. If it wasnt for other reviewers and individuals answering questions about where to insert the bag, I would have been totally lost. So, hopefully this will help others to understand where to install it. Other reviewers communicated that you can even leave it floating freely in your tank. This works too-Ive tried it. You dont need a special filter set-up or compartment in your filter. In my tanks, I generally tuck it underneath the plastic grid in my filter and it holds it in place so it doesnt float away. The water coming out of the filter washes through the bag of Purigen. I have several tanks and am going to purchase a couple more bags of this Purigen. I want it in all my larger tanks so that I dont have to be concerned with bi-weekly chemical checks. My aquariums are all fairly new and they have been going through a lot of changes as of late. I guess the pros call it cycling. This Purigen really eases the water chemistry and brings everything into perfect balance and a peaceful calm for my fish. I would definitely recommend this product as it works miracles in my aquariums and relieves stress for fish and fish keepers!
