Silicon Power Black 1TB Rugged Portable External Hard Drive Armor A60, Shockproof USB 3.0 for PC, Mac, Xbox and PS4, Black

I have had no problems with this. Its functioning as my auto-backup for my computer and works well. The cord holder is kind of gimmicky. It will pop out and its something that my dog would eat without a second thought if he found it on the floor. If you are really into cord systems, this probably isnt a great cord system. I like the fact that there is a rubbery plastic piece that covers the usb plug, which helps to keep out dust and some (maybe) environmental moisture, but it isnt a weather proof seal by any means. This should work fine for people who dont have extreme requirements for their external hard drive. It seems like it would travel well and I like the lime green color.

I have the 1TB model which when formatted in Windows using NTFS ended up being 932GBs. »The outer casing consists of hard plastic and the green silicone material you can see in the photos. The green silicone is actually what is surrounding the hard drive inside, protecting it from drops and is how the suspension system works. The green silicone also has a slot that goes all the way around which is used to hold onto the included USB 3.0 cable using 2 clips. The 2 plastic pieces simply screw into each other on each side using 4 screws. The USB port has a flap in the silicone to keep it closed and free of dust when not in use. There are also 2 openings on the bottom plastic part where 2 green strips come through and provide grip on whatever surface you put it on, preventing slips. Simple and effective design for protection, grip and convenience. »There is no external powered needed for this, power it taken from the USB port on whatever device you are using it with »Copying to and from the drive was speedy and I the speeds I received when running a speed test were about what I expected for a traditional hard drive over USB 3.0. I attached a photo of my results which were 120.0MB read and 115.8MB write for sequential writes. Im not sure if Silicon Power wanted me to do this, but I did it anyways, I unscrewed the 4 screws to see what drive was inside. I know Silicon Power does not manufacture hard drives like Western Digital and Seagate do. I was hoping to find a brand name from one of the very few large drive manufacturers and I am happy to report I did. Inside is a 1TB standard Seagate laptop drive. Not some cheap white label drive, a quality brand drive. Good choice. »I have not tested the ability to survive a drop because I am actually using this on a daily basis so I am being slightly cautious. I bought this external hard drive to use to store all my important documents and photos somewhere other than my pc. I had a different one for several years, but it has gotten to the point where the cord I use for it no longer stays connected so I had to get another before I lost everything. This one works great! I love the fact that it uses a usb cord both ways so my cord began to give me issues, it would be easy to replace. I also like that this is very rugged and waterproof as I like to sometimes carry it with me in my purse. Hoperfully the capacity of 1TB will take a long time for me to fill. My only issue has been with the little side rubber hooks that are supposed to keep the cord on the unit, as one already came off and I have misplaced it in my purse. Very happy with this overall and can highly recommend.

Recognized instantly by laptop and able to write. Easily formatted for exFat larger files. A little dissapointed in the cable attachment as the small holders easily pop out and get lost. I got this specifically so that whenever I grabbed it the cable would be there.

Construction is top notch, clearly heavy duty and Im not worried about dropping it or anything. The cord is standard male USB to standard male USB which is a little odd. If you lose it youll have to get a replacement somewhere, and the way it attaches to the drive is a little suspect so I assume Ill probably misplace it at some point in the future. Drive works well with Windows as well as Mac OS

As expected from other reviews, the rubber clips supposedly holding the usb cable popped off as soon as I detached the cable - I put a rubber band around the drive to hold the cable, and that works much better than the clips. Otherwise, it worked as advertised. I transferred some business files so Id have another copy of them, and that worked. I just got the drive today, havent dropped it, havent had water soak it, just transferred some sensitive files, so I cant give you any long term usage results. Will come back & comment should anything exceptional or disastrous happen, otherwise its a good functioning hard drive. .

Like it so far. I havent dropped it yet, but I know its just a matter of time. My biggest complaint about it is that it has uses the large size USB plug instead of a micro. Why?? Every other gadget I own has a micro-usb port, and now I have to keep track of this units cable that has no other purpose. I ended up buying a USB A Male to Micro USB Female Adapter for my unit that somewhat makes the issue better.

Not the fastest in the world (hence the loss of one star), but otherwise? I love this thing! Ive now had this drive for over 4 months, and I use it to store photos and ebooks that I cant keep on my laptop. I feel like I could throw this drive into the nearest puddle, and my terabyte of data would be just fine. Its easy to keep track of the USB cable with the silicone divot all around the top of the drive, and the neon green strip ensures that I can see it in my luggage, on the floor of my car, and in my purse! I looked for a drive to replace my old Transcend (640GB StoreJet M3) after the USB connector failed. A work colleague purchased the SP A60 drive and after looking it over I decided it would be a better replacement for the Transcend based on the device using an actual USB port rather than the flat USB3 connector. In fact that alone was the reason why I would not choose the Transcend again. Other than that, the SP 1TB A60 drive is very nice, the top of the cover can be a little slippery but on the desk it sits firm with the anti-slip pads underneath. I do a lot of international travelling and the drives take a bit of a beating as I go around the world. Ill give it 5 stars in 3 years time :)

Ive had this new hard drive for a week or two, and it looks great but there are a couple of problems. Its a little slow to connect sometimes, so when I attempt to open a folder on the drive Ill get a not available message and have to wait a few seconds and try again. A little annoying since my last hard drive didnt do that, but not a big deal. The main problem is that its now not recognizing a folder at all. All of the file names are scrambled and I cant open them at all -- not even after disconnecting the drive and reconnecting it a few minutes later. Im still troubleshooting so there may be a fix, but its pretty frustrating to have to deal with this with a new device.
